you are prose
risen from laurel woodlands.
verses unseen beneath
the grooves of your bark.your fortitude is inspiriting,
an everlasting evergreen—
like a rose under the april snow,
staying rooted with brilliant ease.this place of viridian thickets
your realm, an ellipsis of time.
a monumental thing of royalty,
the reigning monarch of meadows
scattered with forget-me-nots.whether the days be blighted or serene,
your needles of phthalo green
evermore faithful upon your boughs,
choreographed by the wind.a king of eternities,
your silhouette of pyramids
opposing luminescence
of morning glory
and midnight sun.to be envious of an evergreen,
to have a warm and exciting strength
within this cruel and unusual world
a fate of fortune—
destined to be nothing
but everything.ageless and flourished,
ever green.(inspired by "evergreen"—barbara streisand)
