⚊ chapter one
I swear, if I ever make it out of this alive, I’m going to personally haunt whoever thought kidnapping me in the middle of the night was a good idea.
Imagine this:
I was almost dreaming about finally getting Jungwon to confess to Lian face to face, without his tail tucking between his kitten legs like the scaredy-cat he is. But just as I’m about to witness the moment of victory, when suddenly, something yanked at my feet.
I jolted awake, my heart racing, and before I could even process what was happening, I let out a blood-curdling scream.
My first instinct?
Scream for my life like I’m about to star in some horror show, the kind where the loud, obnoxious one always dies first.
That’s the first thought that races through my mind as I feel the rope tightening around my wrists, a stupid sack over my head, and random hands shoving me into what I can only assume is a car.
Seriously, what am I—a pig being sacrificed to some sort of a cult?
"You guys better pray I don’t figure out who you are!" I yell, my voice muffled but loud enough to hopefully make whoever's holding me think twice.
Of course, no one answers, just some stupid giggles in the background. Is that supposed to be comforting? Because it’s not.
"Is this some kind of sick joke? Because when I get out of here, I’m going to—"
Before I can finish my threat, the car suddenly screeches to a halt.
Perfect. Time to show these idiots what happens when you mess with Park Minji.
The moment the door opens and they start dragging me out, I throw myself forward, thrashing like a maniac. But instead of sweet revenge, I’m dunked straight into freezing cold water.
What. The. Actual. Hell.
As I splutter and surface, flailing in the water, I rip the sack off my head, and the first thing I see is freaking confetti raining down on me.
Seriously?
My eyes dart around, taking in the scene as I tread water, my clothes sticking to me like some pathetic wet cat. It reminds me of the first time Ni-ki pulled me into a pool, back on New Year’s Eve—when all of this chaos started.
Who knew a midnight swim would lead to… whatever this is?
And then it hits me—this isn’t a kidnapping. This is a freaking surprise party.
"Happy anniversary, Minji!"
I glare up at the faces around the pool, trying to decide who to kill first. Sunoo and Sunghoon are practically losing their minds laughing, with Chenle, Dongpyo, and Rei not far behind. Heeseung and Jungwon, of course, have decided it’s a good time to push Jay and Jake into the pool too, the bastards.
As I start swimming to the edge, plotting my revenge, I catch sight of the rest of the crew. Sunhee and Kiara are dunking each other with glee.
Eunjoo is standing by the table, her baby bump very much visible as she cheers everyone on, and there’s Lian, our newest addition, looking like she has no idea what kind of crazy she just signed up for. But her smile says she doesn’t mind being part of it.
And standing there, smirking like the annoying boyfriend that he is, is Ni-ki—my monkey baby, the mastermind behind all of this. I should’ve known. I swim over to him, but instead of cursing him out like I planned, I can’t help but laugh at the absurdity of it all.
