⚊ chapter two
It’s one thing to know a secret, but it’s a whole different beast when you’re responsible for getting that secret out into the open.
That’s where Ni-ki and I find ourselves right now—caught in the middle of Jungwon’s hopeless crush on Jillian.
And trust me, playing matchmaker is not as easy as it looks, especially when you’ve got one guy who’s too nervous to confess and one girl who’s so shy she won’t make the first move even if her life depended on it.
Ni-ki thinks it’s hilarious, of course. We’re lounging on the couch, and he’s grinning like an idiot while scrolling through his phone.
“Jungwon’s not as hopeless as you think, babe,” he says, not even bothering to look up. “Give him some time. He’ll spill the beans eventually.”
I roll my eyes so hard I can practically see my brain. “Right, because time is the magical cure for every crush. He’s had months, Ni-ki! At this rate, they’ll both graduate before he even says ‘i like you’ without turning into a tomato.”
He chuckles, finally setting his phone down. “You really think meddling is gonna help?”
“Absolutely.” I cross my arms, determined. “Jungwon needs a nudge—no, a shove in the right direction. And who better to do it than us?”
Ni-ki raises an eyebrow. “You mean you, right?”
I smirk, leaning in closer. “Oh, you’re helping whether you like it or not, monkey baby.”
He groans, but I see that hint of a smile tugging at his lips. “Fine, but if this backfires, I’m telling everyone it was your idea.”
“Deal,” I say, already plotting out my next move. “But when it works, you can thank me later.”
Jungwon’s been in love with Jillian since the day he saw her move in across from Ni-ki’s house. It all started with those adorable kittens of hers, the ones that had him chasing them around in the heat of summer, just to help her out.
And yet, after all this time, he still hasn’t mustered the courage to say anything. So, naturally, it’s up to me to give them a little push—or shove, if necessary.

We start simple. No grand gestures, no over-the-top schemes. Just opportunities—little moments where Jungwon and Jillian can be alone, maybe even close enough for him to finally blurt out how he feels. Easier said than done, though.
Take the bonfire, for example. It’s the perfect setup—romantic lighting, cozy atmosphere, and all their friends conveniently distracted with their own antics.
Ni-ki’s backyard is buzzing with life, the fire crackling in the pit, and the smell of marshmallows and whatever Sunhee and Kiara are cooking wafting through the air.
Sunoo is tossing around ideas for his next dance cover, while Chenle is doubled over laughing at Dongpyo, who’s miserably attempting to record a TikTok challenge with Rei. She’s roped him into some elaborate uniform outfit change, and it’s taking way longer than it should.
“This is it. Tonight’s the night,” I mutter to Ni-ki, nudging him as I watch Jungwon shuffle nervously around the fire.
Ni-ki, lounging casually on a nearby lawn chair, snickers. “Yeah, sure. If Jungwon hyung can actually get a word out without combusting.”
I shoot him a glare but focus on the task at hand. Jillian’s just finished helping Kiara with something and is making her way back to the fire.
Perfect. I casually steer her towards the spot next to Jungwon, making it seem like the most natural thing in the world.
