Pandu and Madri died 6 Months after Nandh Baba and Ananya visited them.

Kunti Devi took charge of her broken family and started raising her 5 sons as a single parent while continuing the self exile in the forest.
.....

Three years passed like this. In those years, MahaMahim Bheeshm was split between trying to find the eldest Kuru Prince Karn and trying to convince their Kulvadhu Kunti to return back to Hastinapur. He and Vidhur had employed all the strategies to find a person with a golden Kavach and Kundal in their entire kingdom but to no avail. They still were not completely over Pandu's death but they continued to push.

When Maharaj Dhritarashtra and his sons had initially gotten to know about Karn, they had been absolutely furious but over the years, Pitamah and Vidhur had been able to calm down the King but unfortunately same could not be said for his 100 sons. Under the poisonous influence of GandharRaj Shakuni, they had developed a deep rooted blind hatered for their 6 cousin brothers whom they have never seen or met!

....

One day, Mahamahim had just finished his ganga pooja and asked his mother for guidance,

"Mathe...Meine Surya Putra Karn ko Rajya mein har jaga dundh li hai...par mujhe woh kahi nhi mil raha hai...koi marg dikha do.."

(Mother..I have searched for Surya Putra Karn everywhere in the kingdom...but I still can't find him...please show me a path..)

He then heard her familiar sweet voice,
"Putr..yeh avishya nhi hai ki Karn sadev uske kavach aur kundal ka pradharshan kare..aur usse Dhanurvidya pasand hai..."

(Putr...its not necessary that Karn will always display his Kavach and Kundal...and he loves Dhanurvidya...)

That was all she said but Mahamahim understood what he had to do.

The Ganga Putr folded his hands and bowed to the divine River -His mother and thanked her gratefully.

He then quickly instructed his sarathi (charioteer) Adhirath to take him back to the Palace as soon as possible.

.........

The next day, An announcement was made in the entire kingdom.
An Archery competition was to be held and everyone who had the talent irrespective of their class or caste was invited to take part. The competition was an obstacle course. That meant the participants had to defend themselves as well as take offence when needed. The competition would be judged and precided by Mahamahim and Kripacharya.

The people of the Kuru kingdom were all
super excited about this opportunity!
It was not revealed what prize the winner of the competition will get but the youths of the kingdom didn't care. This was their moment to prove their worth without their caste coming between their talent.

32 year old Vasusena happily went to his father and asked for permission and blessing to take part.

Adhirath could no longer deny him since the competition allowed everyone to participate. He gave his son his approval.

Vasusena happily looked at his mother Radha and told her to make Kheer and he will return as a winner.

She nodded emotionally and blessed him with Vijaya tilak.

He smiled and confidently took his bow (which looked simple but it was made by him) and quiver strode out of his house towards the place of competition.

...

The amount of participants that turned up for the competition was massive. Which resulted the participants to take part in batches. About 500 had turned and there were 5 batchs. In each batch, 100 participants were there.
