Disgust is hardly the word that came to mind, but I shall spare the military mail-checkers the embarrassment of reading what I truly think of that notion.
Maybe it is in my best interest to feign misunderstanding, as it were.
As for my apparently glorious return, I cannot be sure when that shall be. This war does not yet have an end in sight, and I should hate to promise something of which I cannot be sure.
Trust that I miss you dearly, too. I shall rush home as soon as I can.
