Elizabeth's POV

"What're you up to?"

I glanced up as Maggie stood in the doorway of Beth's room - who was sitting on her bed behind me plaiting my hair. It was nice, just relaxing and letting her - and she seemed pretty happy to have someone to practice on with hair longer than her sisters, and more willing to girl-talk than Patricia. Beth shifted behind me.

"Her hair - it's like yours before you cut it, I wanted to make it nice before dinner tonight," She replied happily. I did feel better - she insisted on me washing it in the shower, and using the smallest bit of her shampoo so I even smelt a bit like lavender. It was a nice change from sweat and dirt. "Plus I did all my duties today, and daddy doesn't seem happy so I thought I'd stay here outta his way."

"You're right about that," Maggie sighed, joining me on the floor and looking at the book in my hand. "You get that from the living room?"

I nodded, "Hope that's okay - I haven't read in too long, already gone through all we had twice.

"More than welcome to it, don't think anyone's touched a book in there since mom got sick."

Beth stiffened a moment, then continued going through my hair. I didn't comment, knowing they were likely still dealing with their own losses as a family. "I'm gonna grab you a hair tie to keep your hair in place." She muttered, quickly getting up and leaving the room.

I watched her leave, turning my head towards Maggie, "She not handling it well? Everything?"

Maggie shook her head, "Are any of us?" I sighed with that one, glancing at the door.

"So, Glenn and you..." I whispered. She turned away from me.

"There's no, 'Glenn and me' - it was a one-time thing," She insisted, though the tips of her ears bloomed. "To get it out of my system."

I chuckled, adjusting in my position. "Yeah? Shane was a 'get it outta my system' fling, we've been married years." I glanced at the ring on my neck and felt odd discussing it whilst we were in a weird place. She looked at me, about to argue when Beth re-entered, plopping herself down on the bed behind me.

She tightened the plait, before adding the scarf and grabbing the mirror near her, pushing it in front of me so I could see. I grinned in surprise about . "Wow Beth, thank you!" I grinned at her as she smiled in the reflection. "It's perfect."

Maggie bit her tongue for the earlier comment, smiling up at her sister. "You're a star, Beth." She turned to me. "Let's have a chat outside - if you don't mind?"

I blinked, nodding and giving another smile to Beth as I left.

We walked down the stairs, I heard Lori and Carol making food with Patricia in the kitchen. I'd been avoiding Lori since discussing the pregnancy, wanting to avoid the topic altogether until she told Rick. We walked outside, standing on the porch near Carl's room whilst he slept. Every time I visited to check on him he was fast asleep - I just wanted to check on and chat to my little buddy.

"Look, I don't know what you're trying to do - if you're wingmanning him or somethin', but stop," Maggie accused as we stood under the sun. I raised a brow.

"I'm not trying to push anything, I was just saying - you don't need to be harsh to him. He's a really good guy, if you don't want to sleep with him then don't," I shrugged. Her eyes flicked to the door to check her father didn't hear as I leaned over the banister, looking towards our camp. "It was an off-handed comment, I didn't mean any offence by it. I was more reminiscing about how my own relationship started. I was the same age as you."
