Suzuha Chikage sat at her desk, the acceptance letter from U.A. High School resting in front of her.

Her fingers traced the edges of the paper, but her mind was far from the celebratory mood expected of someone who had just been accepted into the most prestigious hero academy in Japan.

The email she had received from U.A. High School earlier had provided her with all the details-she had placed second in the entrance exam, missing the top spot by just one point.

It gnawed at her.

The determination she had felt after reading the email still mixed with a heavy sense of self-doubt.

*Second place isn't enough,* she thought.

*But I have to stay strong. I have to show everyone, and especially myself, that I can be the best.*

Taking a deep breath, Suzuha picked up her phone and dialled her parents' number. It was late, and she knew they were likely still at work, but this news couldn't wait. After a few rings, her mother's voice answered, slightly out of breath.

"Suzuha? Is everything alright?" her mother asked, concern evident in her tone.

"Hi, Mom. Everything's fine," Suzuha replied, trying to keep her voice steady. "I got my results from the U.A. entrance exam."

There was a pause, and then her mother spoke again, more composed this time. "And? How did it go?"

"I got in," Suzuha said, a small smile forming despite her inner turmoil. "I placed second."

Her mother's relief was palpable. "That's wonderful news, Suzuha! Hold on, let me get your father on the line."

A few moments later, her father's voice joined the call, sounding tired but eager.

"Suzuha! Your mother told me the news. Congratulations, sweetie! We're so proud of you."

"Thanks, Dad," Suzuha replied, her smile widening. "It wasn't easy, but I made it."

As her parents continued to express their pride and happiness, Suzuha's younger sister, Sumire, appeared in the doorway of her room, a wide grin on her face. She must have overheard the conversation.

"You're going to U.A., onee-san!" Sumire exclaimed, rushing over to give her sister a tight hug.

"That's amazing! I'm going to tell everyone at school tomorrow!"

Suzuha hugged her back, feeling a rush of affection for her supportive family.

"Thanks, Sumire. I couldn't have done it without you guys."

After a few more minutes of excited chatter, Suzuha's parents had to get back to work, but not before promising to celebrate properly once they got home. Suzuha ended the call and turned her attention back to her sister, who was still beaming with pride.

"I'm so proud of you, onee-san," Sumire said, her eyes shining.

"You're going to be an incredible hero."

Suzuha's smile faltered for a brief moment as she looked into her sister's eyes.

The echo of her thoughts from earlier returned.

*I need to be better.*

"Thanks, Sumire. But... I didn't get first place. I was so close-just one point off."

Sumire tilted her head, her expression thoughtful.

"But you got into U.A. That's what matters, right? You're still amazing. And one point? That's nothing! You're practically the best!"

Suzuha nodded slowly, trying to let her sister's words sink in.

"Yeah, you're right. I just... I wanted to be the best."

"You are the best to me," Sumire said firmly.

"And you're going to show everyone at U.A. just how great you are."

Suzuha hugged her sister tightly, feeling a little lighter.

"Thanks, Sumire. I needed that."

As the night wore on, Suzuha sat back at her desk, looking over her acceptance letter again. She knew that she had a lot of work ahead of her, and she was determined to use this opportunity to prove herself. Second place was just the beginning.

*Next time, I'll be better.*

Later, when the house was quiet and everyone had gone to bed, Suzuha reached into her desk drawer and pulled out a small bottle of pills. She stared at it for a moment, her reflection visible in the window beside her desk.

The email had detailed not just her ranking but also how close she had been to first place. These antidepressants had become a necessary part of her routine, a way to keep the darkness at bay, especially when the weight of her own expectations threatened to overwhelm her.

She took a deep breath and unscrewed the cap, swallowing one of the pills with a glass

*Not just for myself, but for my family and for the dreams I hold so dearly.*

Suzuha Chikage had taken the first step towards her dream of becoming a hero. With the support of her family and a resolve to improve herself, she was ready to face the challenges that awaited her at U.A. High School. The journey was just beginning, and Suzuha was prepared to give it her all.
