As Siya hurried onto the university campus, she tried to shake off the lingering thoughts of the dream that had haunted her all morning. She barely made it through the gates when a familiar voice called out to her.
"Well, well, look who finally decided to grace us with her presence!" Yashi teased, a playful grin spreading across her face. "The queen of punctuality, late for the first time ever! What happened? Were you busy dreaming about a handsome hunk calling you 'baby girl'?"
Siya's face flushed crimson, the memory of the dream flashing through her mind. She struggled to keep her composure, rolling her eyes at Yashi's relentless teasing. "Oh, please," she retorted, trying to sound indifferent. But the way her heart raced betrayed her. After their classes ended they moved to the canteen to grab something to eat.
"You drive me wild, he whispered, his breath hot against her ear. I can't get enough of you, he murmured his lips teasing " Yashi read with a smirk. "Yashi, stop!" Siya hissed, her embarrassment growing. She reached out and snatched the phone from her friend, her cheeks burning. "People can hear you!" ... " Kabhi to kuch dhang ke books padh liya kar"
Yashi just laughed, unfazed. "Oh, come on! This is exactly what's going to happen when a rich-no, very rich-prince sweeps me off my feet and makes me his queen!".
Before Siya could respond, their friend Krish joined them, catching the tail end of Yashi's fantasy. "A rich prince, huh?" he said, raising an eyebrow. "I'm sure he'll be captivated by your reading material."
Siya and Krish burst into laughter, their amusement only growing as Yashi pouted in mock annoyance. "You guys are impossible," Yashi huffed, crossing her arms. "Just wait until I'm living in a palace, and you're all stuck with your boring lives."
Their lighthearted banter was cut short by the arrival of Sara, Aisha, and Mona- the mean girls of the university. They sauntered over, their eyes narrowing as they took in Siya's simple attire.
"Well, if it isn't the orphan," Sara sneered, her voice dripping with disdain. "Once the richest heir in the city, and now just another charity case."
Siya's heart dropped, the taunts hitting her like a physical blow. Her chest tightened, and the familiar sensation of panic began to creep in. She tried to block out their words, but they echoed in her mind, each one a reminder of how much she had lost.
"Look at her clothes," Mona added, her tone mocking. "You'd think with all that knowledge, she'd at least know how to dress herself."
"Back off Sara" Yashi snapped, but Siya held her hand to stop her from saying anything more. She didn't want any more drama today.
Aisha smirked, stepping closer. "Aww...kya hua bura laga bachi ko"
Siya squeezed her eyes shut, willing herself to stay calm, but the pressure was too much. The walls were closing in, and all she could hear were their cruel voices mingling with the echoes of her own doubts and fears.
Without thinking, she turned and ran, her feet carrying her away from the sneering faces, the judgmental whispers, and the memories she couldn't escape. She barely registered Krish and Yashi calling after her as she fled through the corridors, her vision blurring with unshed tears.
By the time she made it outside the campus, her lungs were burning, and she felt like she couldn't breathe. She stumbled to her knees, clutching her chest as waves of pain crashed over her. Tears streamed down her face as she gasped for air, her hands trembling uncontrollably.
Krish and Yashi reached her just as she collapsed into sobs, her body shaking with the force of her emotions. Yashi dropped to her knees beside her, pulling Siya into a tight embrace as she cried.Yashi held her close, whispering soothing words into her ear, while Krish hovered nearby, his face etched with concern. They had seen her strong for so long, but now, in this moment, Siya's pain was raw and exposed, and all they could do was be there for her, hoping their presence was enough to bring her some comfort.
"Why is this happening to me?" Siya sobbed, her voice broken and filled with despair. "Why is it...always...me?...Why?"
