Sapphire eyed the house, hearing loud screams from inside. It was mostly the parents while Ruby trembled outside, having passed out from something. She hid the knife as she neared the house. She silently stepped around Ruby, not waking him as she let herself in. Ruby's father had locked himself in the bathroom, not allowing the monster of a woman near him. Sapphire was unfazed as she brought the knife out. It was all or nothing.

Ruby woke up to motion. He wasn't sure what was happening since everything blurred around him, so he tried to focus on something. He then heard his father's voice, which seemed to be focused on him.

"Ruby?" He blinked a little before his vision slightly cleared up, letting him see the male parent. Relief filled his face as Ruby trembled. "It's going to be ok. Focus on your breathing." Ruby gave a confused look, but ultimately he blacked out.

~

It didn't feel like 3 days, but when Ruby did wake up, it sure didn't feel like a few hours. He blinked a little before his father's voice filled the air.

"Ruby." He glanced over, seeing the male get to his aid. He smiled weakly. "Thank god... I was so worried. Are you ok?" He nodded before he gulped.

"Can-" His throat was sore from the lack of water he had gotten, so his dad heard more of a croak than words. He was sat up before a cup touched his mouth and water was offered. He sighed as the cold liquid dealt with the sore throat. He gulped before pausing. "Where..."

"Local hospital. Someone called for an ambulance." He glanced at his father, confused. He seemed to take a deep breath. "I... have to believe whoever called for help might've killed your mother." He trembled, almost in relief.

"Really?" His father nodded.

"We're free." He had a soft smile before the pain returned. His father laid him down before he spoke.

"Who..." His father hummed.

"Police are still looking. But they have little clues."

~

They were allowed back in the house after Ruby was released. Norman placed him on the armchair so that he could relax before the older man collapsed on the couch. Ruby paused before watching his father completely drop into unconsciousness. He knew his dad struggled to sleep at the hospital, but still- A noise escaped the door before a knock filled the air. He allowed his father to rest before he went to the door. Upon opening it, Sapphire's blue eyes flashed.

"You're ok!" He blinked before she smiled. "Rumors were running around that you were severely hurt or even dead! But... it seems they can be debunked." She tilted her head as he paused. "Can I come in?"

"Sure-" He allowed her in as she looked around. Shakily, he got back to the chair before she hummed.

"Is..."

"We just got back from the Hospital." She hummed before grabbing a blanket and draping it over his dad.

~

After the police found nothing and the case went cold, Ruby found the killer. But he wasn't sure if he should risk it.

He found Sapphire in the corner of an empty classroom, looking over a fairly sharp knife. The weapon matched most of the details from the wound, so he was sure it was the same blade. He gulped before entering, alerting the female. She said basically nothing as she cleaned the blade, showing her attention to detail.

"Hey Ruby." The fact that she knew it was him spooked him a bit, but he sat beside her, almost confident she wouldn't stab him.

"Hey." He eyed the dagger as she put it in a sheath that hid in her jacket sleeve. So that's why it was undetectable. She glanced at him as he hummed. "Can I..."

"Don't." His eyes drifted up to hers as she smiled. "I know what you're about to ask. Yes. I did. But no one really needs to know that." He blinked before showing confusion. "Your mother was on her last chance. She's lucky she lived this long." He gulped.

"You... killed her?"

"She almost killed you and your father if the ambulance didn't make it. You're welcome." He must've looked confused as she took his hands. "I guard those I love the most. Whatever pain one may be in, I will force it to hell. Your mother should never have had a place on this planet. It's good that she's gone." He gulped.

"You... say that like this isn't your first time." She smiled.

"Back at my first school, there was a boy I liked. He knew I liked him and everything. However, he had a medical emergency at the very end of our first year together. The school nurse did nothing to save him." He paused.

"You killed her."

"The Faculty defended her actions. When they tried to accuse me, my mother turned the court case from the murder to what happened to that boy. The school should know better than to try someone who had a lawyer as their mother and a good aim. I don't miss my target." He gulped as she smiled. "No one in this world should be hurting. While I can't protect them all, I can do what I can. You understand... right?" He took a second before smiling.

"Thank you." She nodded before pulling him into a hug. He then paused. "Will you continue to stay by my side?" She hummed.

"I will carry you to the light. It's time you got out of the dark and into the light." He trembled before squeezing the hug, thanking her.
