I was trudging through the dense forest, to my way back home, my mind was racing with thoughts of my missing brother. The cryptic note in the cave had left me with more questions than answers. Kyrencia, the mysterious word echoed in my mind like a mantra. What secrets did it hold?

I walk through the exact same path, from which I came to meet Thane. I remember how excited I was about meeting him but everything changed in just a night. Now he is missing and I’m going back to my home without any clues about his condition or his location. I was lost in my thoughts when my mind buzzed with the lines that old lady told me.

“The pain of separation is a heavy burden to bear”

yeah it was true. I have seen my mother and Thane craving for my father’s presence. I’m definitely not too attached to any of his belonging I don’t even knew him.

“Sometime things that seem to be cruel  and unfair are necessary for greater good.”

What good lies in my only strength being kidnapped. My brother being trapped in unknown threats.

Your brother’s journey was not yours to walk. But he was walking it for a reason and you too have your own path to follow.”

I surely do have  a path to walk on and it will end on finding my brother. My only destination.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I almost looked my surrounding in surprise when I realised that I was standing in front of a small cottage at the border. I walked up to the small wooden stairs and stand before of the door.

With a hanging board saying “Little nest”. My fingers traced the board. I still remember how Thane managed to bring this board for me when I insisted to name this place. How he lifted his finger to manipulate the little flame  on his fingertip  to work like a knife and carved this name. Little nest.

I opened the door with trembling hands. My palm gripped the knob but the sweat made it harder to open it on one go. I keep trying and on my third try the door opened. I walk inside and looked at the long corridor straight, my mother’s back was visible as she was preparing the breakfast. At the left the books were scattered on the couch like they were last night when I went to the forest.

I took a deep and heavy breath relaxing the tightness in my muscles. I moved toward the stairs at the right of the corner moving to the small room of mine. I didn’t looked at Thane’s room. I run toward my room letting myself give away all emotion I have gather. I didn’t cry, no sobbing, no throwing things. I sat down on the floor, my back was placed at the door, head was leaned toward it . And a drop of tear linger my cheeks before many of them find their way down. I was now crying but not even a single voice escape from my mouth. I cried for another half an hour so or maybe longer. When the tightness of my heart was gone. I went down to see my mother arranging the table.

She looked at me smiling “Good morning, baby”.
I replied her with a forced smile “Good morning, mother” I sat beside her clenched my fist tightly. My nails were piercing the skin on my palm. I looked at my mother happily serving.

"Mother, I need to talk to you about something," I said, my voice firm but trembling slightly.
She looked at me, there was a hint of concern in her eyes.
“What is it, Lyra?”
I hesitantly choose my words "I've decided to participate in the Selection Process. I know it's not what we planned, but I have to do it. I have to know what happened to my father.”

Which was somewhat partially truth and partially not. I don’t know what happen to my father and I don’t want to know. But about Thane I need to find him as soon as possible.
My mother's expression changed from concern to shock, and then to outright fear.
