The drive to Keefe's house was tense, the silence thick enough to cut with a knife. Keefe's hand was tight on the steering wheel, his knuckles white. The scenery outside the car windows changed from the bustling city streets to the quiet, tree-lined roads of the wealthy neighborhoods. The leaves had turned a fiery orange and red, whispering secrets as they danced in the autumn breeze.

Finally, unable to bear the silence any longer, Sophie reached out and gently laid her hand on top of his. "Hey," she said softly. "You okay?"

Keefe took a deep breath, his eyes never leaving the road. "Yeah," he said, his voice tight. "It's just...my parents. They have a way of ruining my day."

Sophie gave his hand a squeeze. "You don't have to tell me everything," she said. "But I'm here for you."

Keefe glanced at her, a small smile playing on his lips. "Always?"

"Always, and forever" she affirmed, squeezing his hand gently. big words their ma'am

The car pulled up to a grand mansion, a stark contrast to the warm, welcoming mansion of Havenfield. The grandeur was almost intimidating, making her feel like she had stumbled into a fairytale, but one with a dark twist. She took a deep breath and prepared herself for the encounter with Keefe's parents.

They walked up the cobblestone path to the grandiose doors of Candleshade, Keefe's houses name. Before Keefe could knock, the doors swung open, revealing a statuesque woman with golden hair that cascaded down her back like a waterfall. Gisela Sencen, Keefe's mother, stood before them, her eyes cold and assessing.

"Keefe," she said, her voice as brittle as ice. "You're late."

Keefe rolled his eyes but didn't respond, leading Sophie inside. The entryway was vast, with a grand staircase that curved up to the second floor the house was mostly black or white.

Gisela's gaze flicked to Sophie, her expression unreadable. "And who might this be?" she asked, her voice cool and detached.

Sophie took a deep breath, straightening her spine. "Sophie Foster, Keefe's Girlfriend." she said, her voice steady.

Gisela's eyes narrowed slightly, before a brittle smile painted her lips. "How delightful," she said, her tone anything but delighted. "Come along, both of you."

Sophie followed Keefe into the house, her eyes taking in the stark contrast between the warmth of Havenfield and the cold grandeur of Candleshade. The walls were adorned with paintings that seemed to watch them as they walked, the floor gleaming with a polish that reflected their footsteps.

In the dining room, Lord Cassius sat at the head of the table, his eyes sharp and assessing as they entered. He took a sip of his wine, his eyes never leaving hers. "Welcome, Miss Foster," he said, his voice a smooth purr. "It's not often we get to meet the friends Keefe brings home."

Keefe pulled out a chair for her, his eyes seemingly bored. "Yeah, well, she's not just any friend," he said, his voice casual despite the tension in the air. "This is my girlfriend."

Sophie sat down, her eyes darting between Keefe's parents. Cassius's smile remained in place, but it didn't quite reach his eyes. "How charming," he said, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "A little birdie told me you had moved on from your last fling."

Keefe's jaw tightened, but he didn't take the bait. Instead, he turned to Sophie with a warm smile. "It's been about a month now actually, hasn't it, Foster?" he said, his voice a gentle tease. "Time really does fly when you're having fun."
