Sophie pressed her lips together as she studied herself in the mirror. The soft blue sweater she'd chosen felt casual enough for a dinner date, but the way the color brought out her eyes made her hesitate. Was it too much? Too little? She sighed, brushing her hair behind her ears for what felt like the hundredth time."You look amazing, so stop overthinking it," Biana said from her perch on Sophie's bed, where she was putting the finishing touches on her makeup. Dressed in a matching sweater and skirt.
"I'm not overthinking," Sophie said, turning back to the mirror to smooth the sweater again. "I just... want everything to go well tonight."
Biana raised an eyebrow, her lips curving into a knowing smile. "By 'everything,' do you mean the date or impressing Keefe?"
Sophie groaned, her cheeks flushing pink. "It's a double date! That's, like, group pressure. I just don't want it to be awkward."
"Mhmm," Biana said, drawing out the word. "For the record, Keefe's going to lose his mind when he sees you in that sweater. You might as well prepare yourself now."
Before Sophie could form a comeback, the door to their dorm burst open. Keefe leaned casually against the frame, his signature smirk firmly in place. He was wearing a navy blazer over a simple white T-shirt and jeans, managing to look effortlessly cool as always.
"Ladies," he said, with a mock bow. "Your knight in shining... well, denim has arrived."
Sophie spun around, hands on her hips. "Keefe! You're supposed to knock!"
"Why would I knock when I know I'll be welcomed with open arms?" His grin widened as his gaze swept over Sophie, lingering just a second too long. "Wow, Foster. You clean up nice."
Sophie's blush deepened, and she fought the urge to hide behind her hair. "It's just a sweater," she mumbled.
"It's not just a sweater," Keefe countered, stepping further into the room. "It's the sweater. If there was an award for most stunning date, you'd already have it."
Biana groaned, grabbing her purse. "I'm going to wait outside before I get cavities from all this sugar."
Once she was gone, Sophie gave Keefe a playful glare. "You really don't know when to stop, do you?"
"Not when I'm right," he said, offering her his hand. "Ready to make this the best double date of the century?"
Sophie rolled her eyes but took his hand anyway, her heart doing that annoying flutter thing it always did when he smiled at her like that.
The restaurant was a cozy little place tucked away on a quiet street, the kind of spot with mismatched chairs and fairy lights strung across the ceiling. Tam and Biana were already seated at a corner booth when Sophie and Keefe arrived, their expressions a mix of anticipation and nerves.
