The Untold Story of the Tubbies [AU]

Chapter 7: Outside Chaos

       "Is anyone there?" asked one of the soldiers through the radio. "We're stuck in the Satellite Station and need backup ASAP. Repeat, we're stuck in the Satellite Station and need backup ASAP. Over."

       "Are you sure you're ok, Anne?" asked Miles, who shared deep concern over her sudden weakness and nausea. "I...don't know, but I'm alive for now," she said cautiously, standing up being a pain.

       Meanwhile, the other soldier had gone off deeper, past all the corpses and down into the depths while the others followed relatively close behind. Eventually, he arrived at a partially broken open door that led into the Secret Center. Curious, he went inside, peering about and finding a giant robot with deep cuts all over it and partially in pieces.

       But then, he caught sight of another door, one fairly hidden away underneath the staircase. He figured he should alert the others beforehand, but curiosity drew him in even more. He looked around and found what looked like a dropped keycard and had gone back to open the door as the others came into the room.

       "What's...down there, Private?" coughed Anne. "Secret door, don't know where it leads to."

       However, a few minutes later they were all inside, yet it was a desolate hallway with overhead lights casting an eerie glow over the group.

       But then, as they passed by a corridor peace was interrupted by an alarm blaring and the lights turning red. Tall figures in suits and armor then came along with guns aimed at the group from both their front and from the corridor they passed, and being outnumbered, the group was forced to surrender.

       Hours had passed since Dutch left the base, now he was walking around the fortress. It was eerily quiet, and it wasn't any better seeing corpses of the furless tubbies littered just about everywhere. But it was especially bad as he saw dead tubbies he knew were alive before their deaths, several of them he knew.

       It eventually came to the point where he thought everyone was dead and it was best if he left. That was, until he heard gruff coughing, and he went into a separate room and found a bloodied red tubby; Captain Richard.

       "Oh my god, you alright, Rich? What happened?" he asked. Richard coughed a bit before answering. "Everyone's dead, and the army of...those things are on their way to the base I'm guessing."

       Dutch's heart sank. "Oh god, we gotta get back there! Can you walk?"

       Richard's coughing then turned into laugher as he stood up and his concealed arm whipped around, revealing a gun. "Of course I'm fine. And about the signal, it was a trap."

       He then fired, but Dutch dodged out of the way just in time, tackling Richard. The two threw hands and found themselves at a stalemate, until Richard kicked him in his screen stomach, and got the chance to shoot him, this atom hitting him in the chest and the side of his head, where he began bleeding heavily.

       Before long, the black tubby was on the ground and in a pool of his own blood, looking up at Richard. "W...Why?" he asked. Richard only scoffed his question. "Just be glad you aren't dead yet. You and I have got friends to meet up with."

       Moments later, Dutch's vision went black.

       "Gotcha, Po!" giggled Dipsy, tightly clutching his pillow. But then, she swung right around and hit him in the torso as well, laughing as Dipsy stumbled back.

       The Guardian, who stood nearby, couldn't help but smile, reminded of the good amidst their current situation as he watched the young tubbies pillow fight each other. It had been an exhausting few days, being questioned fairly thoroughly and having to get used to their new home at the military base. But there was something that stood out from his mind, that he had begun to question an interest in being called something other than 'Guardian', and so he figured he'd get an actual name eventually.
