Five years ago

"NO RIVER DON'T RUN YOU'LL FALL." I yelled at my baby sister while she ran towards the stalls. We were on a holiday in Scotland for my parents 12th anniversary of marriage. It was so close to my birthday so they brought me and River along. River had turned 2 and wouldn't stop running around.

We were going for a small walk near our hostel. The weather was beautiful and it shined right on the hostel that we were staying.

River waited for us at the front of the stalls. She stayed with dad while my mom and I were going for a ride on the horses.

Thirty minutes later

"Let's go home I'm tired". My mom said. I didn't want to go home yet. It was really nice to see the sun out and ride on the horse next to the lake.

"You can go, I'll stay a bit." My mom decided to leave without me, realizing she couldn't convince me to go back.

I was admiring the breathtaking view. I knew that my parents struggled a lot with finances but one thing they always did was give the best vacations or outings. They really went all out just to make us happy.

It was all calm and good until I heard a loud noise. It came from a rock that felt from the mountain next to the lake. That noise made my horse wild. The horse was jumping up and down and I nearly felt on the ground but somebody stepped in and took me in their arms.

A small boy near my age that looked like a boy from the magazines. He took my with both arms around my waste.

With my hard pounding louder than the big ben I tried to hear what he said to me. "Are you okay miss?" he asked.

Didn't expected him to be such a gentlemen. "I am Kai, my grandparents owned the hostel you're at. So don't worry I am not a killer." He said with a smile that shouldn't have made me blush that hard.

He then realized that we didn't live in the 18th century or in Disney fairytales because he quickly switch his attitude and put me slowly on the ground.

"You still haven't answered my question." He then asked.

I have just realized it. I was so caught off guard from the horse and him grabbing me by the waist, that I haven't realized he was actually expecting an answer.

"Yes I'm fine, thanks."

I said, not sounding convincing or grateful. He understood that I was more than mortified and decided to drop it.

"If you say so. I suggest we go look for Paulo before going back. He might be a selfish bastard that leaves people when there is trouble, but he is still and will always be my mom's favorite horse."

I agree and we both went looking for Paulo. Kai explained me how it was living with his grandparents and how he barely saw his mom because how sick she got. He wished that he could see her more but she practically lived at the hospital.

His grandparents didn't like that Kai would've grow up around that kind of environment so they made him live with them. He then explained a bunch of stories about some mysterious group of hood thieves that always stole on Sundays.

The stories were based on the myths that a bunch of people from his village told him. He told me that he was looking for a way to find all the thieves.

After we found Paulo back, we went back to the hostel. He put Paulo back to his cage and I went looking for my parents. The next morning I was ready to tell him how I wanted to join him with finding them hood thieves but before I even had the change his grandma told me that he left the whole summer to be with his dad in France.
