The Day that Wasn't
Winnie didn't so much as illustrate a map, as vandalize a bathroom mirror with a maze of lines using the Handlers stolen lipstick.
"God, this is a terrible color for that woman." Winnie inspected the spent lipstick tube. Firehouse red? That looked good on Firemen and dog collars- and thats it.
"Focus Winnie." Five chimed from beside her, eyes locked on her art. "You're positive these will lead to both Hazel and Cha-Cha?"
Winnie nodded once and shrugged. "I dont know what you are planning for those two...but yeah. Im positive. Everything power-wise is amazingly easy up here."
Five's eyes flitted over to hers in the mirror. Blue clashed with blue as they made eye contact. Winnies eyes softened and she smiled without ever really meaning to.
"Im sorry." Five said. Winnies head cocked left in the mirror.
"Im sorry we gotta leave this place. Cripple it. We have to break it just a little to make sure we have a fighting chance." Five turned around to face Winnie.
He backed up and relaxed against the edge of a sink and pulled her closer to him. She let herself be pulled to stand between his legs. He rubbed her arms gently and she gave him a confused look, still smiling.
"Why are you sorry?"
He flicked a hair from her eyes and sighed. "Because this place, in an odd way, seems like it was made for you. You have a giant statue, people love you, your powers..."
Fives voice cut off and Winnie felt so warm inside. Five was thinking of her. He was apologizing because he thought she might be sad about losing the commission and its strange attachment and appreciation for her. She was touched.
"Aw Five," Winnie held his face between her hands and assured him gently. "They want our family to die! Of course I dont care what happens here."
Five laughed loudly and pressed his mouth to hers. He loved her. She laughed with him, against his lips, and pushed her hands back through his hair with tingling delicacy.
In the kiss, his hands on her arms dropped to her hips and he pulled her just a little closer between his legs. Winnie felt giddiness bloom in her stomach, and all Five could think was that she tasted so good. He was a deadman when it came to how she kissed him back; matching his energy with the same fierceness.
When his teeth grazed her lip, and he felt her finally give, Five thought of her as divine, heavenly, holy. Five had never been religious, not when he possessed the powers of a god, but it was then that he finally understood the word worship.
Five had to break the kiss. He really, really didn't want to. But he knew if they continued, there wouldn't be enough time left to save the world after. So he did.
And hated himself immediately.
Her eyes were dreamy after the kiss, and her cheeks were a light pink on pale skin. She was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen.
He really didn't want to stop kissing her.
God, why did he have to be so fucking responsible? She was there; alive and safe. That was all he really cared about in the end, right?
