Changes

Darkness that wasn't darkness.

Blackness that wasn't black.

What an odd thing about being blind... all of the visual descriptions of it just aren't accurate. Not really. Not truely.

Blackness that wasn't dark.

Darkness that wasn't black.

She was blinded. The most integral part of herself was just ripped away by a swipe of a violin bow in a fight between sisters.

Winnie couldn't quite wrap her head around it- and the panic it brought. The crazy, horrible panic.

There was nothing, nothing, nothing.

She knew her eyes were open, she tried blinking over and over despite the burning pain of eyes that where no longer whole. She tried and tried again to see the color to see the light to see anything.

But all she saw;

Was empty space.

"Winnie- stay with me. Please, please. It'll be okay, Im here for you." The voice sounded like it was under water.

I'm in shock. Winnie thought idly. A simple conclusion. Her face stung with visceral and skin-crawling sensations, white hot with pain, which was enough to panic about already.

But the shock came from the fact she'd lost her eyes and she knew it.

Her heart was slamming in her chest, so painfully it would crack a rib. She couldn't take a deep breath in, like her lungs were encased in cement and they couldn't expand to take in any more air. Half breathes were all she could manage, like hiccups.

If only she could see. See Five, see her family. Then she would be okay. Then she wouldn't panic, then she could breathe.

But her eyes would not work. No matter how much she begged. She just wanted to see.

"Winnie, please, princess, oh god."

Was that Diego? Five was holding her hands, she recognized his voice when he first came in. But Diego was now here? He sounded so far away. Why was he far away?

Why couldn't she see him?

Her hands were warm, her face was cold. Her eyes were empty, but her hands were full. What was she clutching?

What a funny little riddle.

Im in shock, Winnie thought again. How odd. Why am I in shock?

Her eyes were open but nothing was there. Was she nowhere? Nowhere was scary. It wasn't dark, it wasn't black, but it was something much more painful.

She wanted to cry but there was something so wrong and it wouldn't let her. What was it?

"Oh god her eyes," The voices sounded so scared.

The hands on hers shook, and then tightened. She thought they were Fives, but now she doesn't remember. She doesn't remember anything. What was she holding so tightly?

She wasn't breathing enough. She was going to pass out in shock- that doesnt sound so bad. She couldn't see anything anyways.

And then like a knife, slicing through a cloud, she heard him. Five spoke in a voice that wasnt a plead, but an order.
