Chilling Rain

-

- 3RD PERSON -

My body ached. My lungs howled, crying——begging——for an abundance of oxygen that didn't send shock them with the cold air temprature. Behind the sound of my weak, breathing was the sound of rainwater hitting the pavement and asphalt. It pounded everywhere, the sound swallowed me, overloading my senses... it gradually got louder.

I swiftly made my way up the few steps, and didn't hesitate to knock, in a rush, on the polished mohagany door. It felt like years, waiting for an answer; by knocking, I put all I had in, if I wasn't going to get an answer, I'm fucked, yet, if I were to get an answer, this is the ticket to safety.

I had been at a donut store when a shootout began to take place, I managed to escape, but one of the perpetrators must have seen me because they began their chase.

Now, I was banging on the door to what seemed like the safest house.

Somebody opened, I couldn't see their face, it was too dark.

"Please, let me in someone's after me," you said in a hushed voice, still enough fear in it to make my words shake.

The person opened the door all the way, letting me in, and shut it and locked it.

The kind person who had opened the door turned on the light, now I could see them. She was a beautiful woman with curly hair that was in a black to blond ombre. Her eyes were gentle and welcoming. "What's going on?" She asked, concern laced in her voice.

"I was at the donut shop," you began, "some people came in and this whole attack started. I managed to get out but one of them must've seen me because they started chasing me. I eventually realized that they were catching up to me, and that my only hope was to get into a house."

She paused, "... the donut shop? Oh my God, Five..."

Suddenlly, someone began banging on the door.

Footsteps began to approach, and I heard a male voice speaking from behind me.

"The hell is goin' on?" He asked.

I turned around, to see a man dressed in all black... in unique outfit. He was taller than me, and carried himself with confidence. He didn't give the impression of being afraid of anything.

"Someone attacked the donut store, she got out but they chased her. She came here for help." The curly-haired girl replied.

The man in black looked at me, "how many came after you?"

"Just one..." I said shakily.

"You two to into the kitchen, I'll take care of this," he said.

The curly-haired woman grabbed my hand, and reassured that it was going to be okay, before she pulled me into the room the man in black had told us to hide in. However, we didn't hide, we just waited.

I heard the front door open, followed by the sound of a man yelling out in agony.

My heart felt as if it were about to break out of my ribcage; it was going to shatter my sternum and escape. Adrenaline pumped through every limb in my body. The air conditioning felt like knives against my skin. My skin was cold, damp from the rain water and covered in goosebumbs. Rainwater dripped from my hair onto my shoulders, falling down my arms, and trailing down my chest. Each drop sent a chill through my nervous system——I were unable to relax my muscles.
