Waiting For The End

- 3rd Person -

The warm light from the fireplace lit up the longue on the ground floor. Lamps were unreliable, seeing as they had been shot during the commotion. Ben had asked his mother, Grace, to get a fire started in the fireplace, so he and Y/n weren't sitting in complete darkness; both of them were on edge, the fear of someone creeping up behind them and attacking them before their unprepared selves were able to process filled up a good half of both of their minds.

They both say on the same couch, listening to the distressed wood in the fireplace crackle and pop. They were patiently, well——apprehensively—— waiting for Five to get home. if anyone knew what to do in this situation, it would be him.

"We're going to find him," Y/n said, looking over at Ben. Her e/c eyes were soft, filled with countless emotions; sadness, grief, fear and regret were displayed within the twinkles of her irises.

Ben nodded, looking forward. His hands were clasped together; it was impossible to stop the amount of shaking that was happening within his muscles. his mind wasn't the only part of his body that was in pain we it imagine what could be happening to Klaus, but his body, too.

The front door to the Academy opened. Out of instinct, Y/n tensed up and straightened her spine. She moved her body back, seemingly out of fear that whoever was at the door wasn't Five, or any of Ben's siblings. It was as if she was trying to hide it, but she seemed to instinctively want to back up and attempt to shield herself.

Ben glanced over at her, raising his eyebrows. "Hey, Y/n, it's going to be okay. I think it's just Five."

She stayed still, until a figure approached. The familiar voice of an arrogant teenage boy could be heard. "Somebody come over for a party?" He asked, taking off the vest to his school uniform.

"Somebody came in and took Klaus," Ben said, standing up, "two people came before that and attacked Y/n."

"Why do you seem surpris-" Five was going to give his emotionless, smart-ass remark, but Ben stopped him.

"Five, she got hurt and our brother is missing," he seemed almost incapable of yelling, no matter how angry he grew, "are you really just going to pretend none of that happened?"

"Well, she seems fine," Five gestured to Y/n with his chin, "but I don't know if the same thing can be said about Klaus."

Ben sat back down Y/n, his body seemingly growing more anxious, more fueled with grief and sorrow. Y/n softly placed her hand on his shoulder, her fingers sinking into the dips of her collarbone. "It's going to be okay."

His body shivered at her tender touch, a subtle heat began to flow through his muscles——he wasn't used to physical reassurance, he was rather jumpy when it came to it, so such a gesture would obviously earn an odd reaction from him.

"Look, whoever took Klaus was probably after me," Five threw his vest on the coffee table.

"Didn't you say she was in danger? People could've been after her," Ben looked at Y/n.

"They weren't," Five looked up at Ben and Y/n, "they were aware of Y/n's last known wearabouts. After losing contact with their last assassins, they would have naturally come to the conclusion that they have perished, confirming their suspicions that either you," he pointed at Y/n, "or someone you work with was at that location. It's highly unlikely they would send out more assassins to the exact same location and take Klaus for information."

You weren't following anything he said very well.

"Whoever the intruders were the second time were far more blind to details of their targets whereabouts," he began to walk in the direction of the kitchen, "so they took whoever might have some information."

"Don't you think we should be out looking for him?" Y/n said in a raised voice, in order to reach Five who was growing distant with each step.

"Yes, I would like him to be here, however there is also an apocalypse I'm trying to stop," he began to scavenge through the cabinets of the kitchen, "so it is going to be difficult to make the time to find one specific person."

"An apocalypse...?" Y/n said, after a short hesitation.

"We're supposed to be facing doomsday on April first, unless I figure out what triggers it and stop it, that is," Five replied blankly.

"Why the hell didn't you mention this before?" Y/n stood up, however, the searing, burning pain ripping through the muscles and skin in her abdomen was a clear sign for her to sit back down.

"My siblings have not been any help," Five walked over past the couch that Y/n  and Ben were sitting at, "so forgive me for not forseeing that you would be able to provide me with any insight." A forced, almost psychotic grin was shot in her direction.

Words couldn't describe the emotions Y/n felt.

Crushed——utterly destroyed. She felt as though all of the hope, faith and ambition that powered her through each day was swiped directly to her heart. It was like each of them suffered a a different, abominable fate, however all ending up with the exact same outcome.

Her hope in living a life——a life where filled with the healthy balance of elation and sorrow and endeavour and ease. Her hope of living out a life where she felt she belonged; a life where she did what she loved, a life where she was with someone she loved. Most importantly, she lost all hope of a life filled with memories——memories of unforgettable nights with those closest to her, memories of adventures and first-time experiences, more memories of the things she loved. That hope was simply stripped from her and crushed within the palms of what she perceived as fate. Fragments of broken dreams fell in millions, however, none of them managed to get close to breaking the skin of the beast by which it had been broken.

Her faith——her faith in everyone she had ever met, along with herself, to change for her better. She had faith that regardless of what obstacles, and what pain would come her way she would be able to face it and learn from it. She had faith that she could become the best version of herself that she possibly could; she had faith that those who have wronged her will eventually be able to see their mistakes and correctly learn from them. She had faith in change, however, that faith seemed to slowly fade away. It was as if whatever it once represented had been erased, and it was fighting to stay, however, something cannot fight forever; eventually comes a time when everything has to let go.

Finally, was her ambition——her ambition to learn, to improve her hobbies and passions. When she was passionate, she was passionate, and she was filled with ambition, filled with the goal to do what appears to be the impossible. Learning and improving in a skill is, in some senses, growing and developing intellecttually.  She holds countless hours of dedication to the things she loves under her belt. Nevertheless, with Five's words, this ambition began to crumble, breaks were seen in its logic, making her question whether or not what she was doing is worth it. Watching specks of dust from old dreams, failed faith and lost hope, felt like weights pounding, beating against her fragile skull, leaving brutal, painful indents in every part of the body which it had hurt and overall affected the most.

Regardless off the fact that her main three important traits were now gone, she was sure of one thing.

She was not ready to die any time soon.
