Take Me Home

-

- Ben's POV -

The room was silent; quite typical for a Hargreeves family meeting, minus one detail: Y/n. She underneath the kitchen light, wet hair strands sticking to her forehead.

"If you're really gonna keep me here," she finally spoke up, "can I at least go home and get some of my things?"

"You know, you should give us some credit," Five said, "we're trying to help you, do you really think we're gonna fall for that? We're not stupid."

"Then go with me," her voice got louder, "I'm not trying to escape, but I need to get some of my things from home."

Five sighed, rubbing his eyebrows in frustration.

"Since none of you are going to stand up to our little brother, I have to," Diego said, putting his hands up, "I'll go back with her and bring her back."

"Road trip!" Klaus said in a sing-song voice.

Diego looked at him silently for a moment, "okay, is there anyone else who wants to go?"

"Benerino, obviously, because we're like two pewe2as in a pod!" Klaus said, grabbing my shoulders.

"Cool, the rest of us will stay back," Five said, "and don't take forever."

We loaded into Diego's car, Diego drove, y/n guided him from the passenger seat and Klaus and I sat in the back.

We eventually pulled up to a duplex, which I assumed she lived at because she got out of the car. We all followed her inside out the apartment, which she unlocked with the house key she kept on a necklace chain.

The apartment door opened, and she flicked on the warm toned lights. The smell of a scented candle hit me, it was pleasant, but subtle. It must've had some time to air out since since she had been gone for a bit.

She walked in, and went in the direction of what I assumed to be her bedroom. While she did, Klaus and I walked through the living room of her apartment.

It had personality to it, life to it. I could gather some of her personality just from looking at her apartment. There was a large speaker in her living room placed by an outlet. The speaker was orange and had the word ORANGE written across the speaker cloth with some kind of alternative art. Next to it, on a stand was an electric guitar. A cable laid across the floor, seemingly supposed to connect the two, it was plugged into the speaker but not the guitar.

I kept looking around. She had poster for the movie Aliens hanging up next to her TV. On her coffee table was a plushie of [your favorite animal]. Next to the plushie were two framed pictures. One of them was with a man, he seemed quite a bit older than her, I assumed to be her father. They were standing by each other, covered in snow gear. She had her gloved hand out in the 'hang loose' sign. He was just smiling. Her grey reflecting goggles were on, while his were lifted up off his eyes, lagingy ontop of a beanie. They were posing on a snow covered mountain, seemingly on a skylift, which made me wonder if she used to live in a place with such scenery, or if she would visit often, or had family there. It was obvious what she was doing from something I spotted another small printed, unframed photo beside it. It was her standing at the base of the mountain, well, the resort. She held up her snowboard with one hand and held up a peace sign with the other. However, I noticed something in particular.

Her face had a sticker over it, covering it.

I kept observing.

The other framed photo was of her and a different man, one who seemed to be her age, at what appeared to be a concert based on the colors of the lights. The man she was with had brown hair that was cut in a messy mullet-like shape. Bits of his hair hung over his forehead down to his eyebrows. He was extremely attractive. He was taking the picture, he was notably taller than y/n, but she was still focused and in the frame. They both seemed happy.

Klaus came up from behind me, "well slap my ass and call me Susan, is that
y/n's boyfriend?"

I shrugged, "I honestly don't know."

We waited for around seven minutes, before y/n exited her room with a duffel bag. The version of her we saw now, clashed with what we saw in the picture next to the attractive man. In the picture, her eyes were full of life. They were full of ambition, happiness, optimism. The girl in front of us, however, her eyes looked lifeless. The personality, the hope, the spark had been relentlessly pulled out of her from this stressful night as she was left with nothing but a shell of herself.

"Y/n, is this hot piece of ass your boyfriend?" Klaus said, in a girly, gossipy voice.

"Huh?" She said, walking over to the coffee table to see the picture that Klaus was pointing at. She saw exactly who he was referring to, and lightly scoffed.

"Him? No, he's my closest friend," she said, smiling at the picture quickly.

The way she smiled was so kind. It was so warm and welcoming.

We had arrived back home. Y/n was obviously still unhappy and uncomfortable, especially around Five. I couldn't blame her, he was treating her like he was more important, or on top of the rules; so far from what I had seen of y/n, she was rather passive——mixing a personality like her's and a personality like Five's was a rather unhealthy dynamic... but she didn't seem to have a choice.

"We can give you one of the spare bedrooms," Allison said to y/n with a kind voice, "I'll go figure out which one. While I do... would you like something to eat?"

She shook her head, "no, it's uh, it's alright."

Klaus sighed, "I don't know about you, but I think it's time for a well-deserved drink," he walked over to the mini bar.

I groaned in annoyance, and separated from him. I went to retrieve some of the sweets we had leftover from the funeral.

The kitchen was in view of the living room, y/n must've seen me retrieving the treats, because I saw her body slowly approaching me. She was calm, and actually more collected than I would be if I were in her shoes. When she reached the light of the kitchen, I saw her face glow. Her e/c eyes twinkled beneath the source of luminosity——they were rather hypnotizing in a way. She had dark makeup smeared beneath her eyes, probably from both rain water and tears.

"Have one," I quietly said.

She smiled, and grabbed one. Her small hands had a gentle grip on the cookie when she took a bite. Though her muscles were tense and she was nervous, I could tell that she was starting to relax and loosen up a little bit. Hopefully she would feel at home.
