The mission had gone south quickly, and the tension in the air was thick as Y/N stormed down the hall of the X-Mansion. Her heart pounded in her chest, a mixture of anger, frustration, and hurt swirling inside her. She clenched her fists, her mind replaying the events of the mission over and over again. They had been so close, so damn close to capturing the enemy. But then it all fell apart.
"Y/N, wait !" Logan's gruff voice echoed through the corridors as he chased after her.She didn't stop. She didn't even slow down. The words they had exchanged hours ago on the battle field still hung heavy between them. Logan had insisted on holding her back, claiming that she was acting recklessly. She had almost had the enemies within her grasp, but Logan had pushed her out of harm's way, stopping her from chasing them down.
"You can't just go charging in without thinking!" Logan had shouted, his voice harsh with concern and anger.
"You'll get yourself killed!"
"That's bullshit, Logan! I had them! You didn't need to shove me back like some helpless rookie!" Y/N had fired back, her eyes blazing with fury.Logan's protectiveness had only made her feel small, like he didn't believe she was capable of handling herself. And that was what hurt the most. She pushed open the front entrance door, the cool evening air hitting her face as she stepped outside. She needed to calm down, to clear her mind, but her emotions were too raw, too tangled up to unravel just yet.
"Y/N," a calmer voice called out from behind her, trying to catch up her pace. She stopped this time, recognizing the voice instantly. Scott Summers. She turned to see him following her, his gaze fixed on her with a mix of concern and understanding. He must have heard the argument too.Scott stepped forward, his movements careful as if approaching a wounded animal.
"Are you okay?"
Y/N shook her head, her anger giving way to a flood of frustration.
"I'm so tired of being treated like I can't handle things on my own," she admitted, her voice trembling slightly.
"Logan acts like I don't know what I'm doing. I almost had them, Scott. I was so close."
Scott nodded, his expression thoughtful. He didn't interrupt, just let her speak, which was something she appreciated.
"I get that he's worried, but it feels like he doesn't trust me," she continued, her voice softer now, the fight draining out of her. "And that just...hurts."
Scott moved closer until he was standing right in front of her.
"Logan's way of showing he cares can be rough," he said, his voice gentle. "He's hard-headed, and he probably doesn't realize how much his actions hurt you. But I trust you, Y/N. We all do."
She looked up at him, his words bringing a sense of relief she hadn't expected. Scott had always been the calm, steady presence in the team, and right now, she needed that. She needed him.Without thinking, Y/N stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him, pulling him into a tight hug. Scott hesitated for a fraction of a second, then his arms came around her, holding her securely against him. His embrace was warm, strong, and comforting. Exactly what she needed in that moment.
"I'm grateful for you," she whispered, her voice muffled against his chest.
"Thank you, Scott."
Scott's hand moved to gently stroke her hair, his touch reassuring. "I'm here for you, Y/N. Always."
She felt the tension in her shoulders start to melt away as she leaned into him, feeling safe and cared for in his arms. For the first time since the mission had gone wrong, she felt like she could breathe again. As she pulled back slightly, just enough to look up at him, she saw the soft smile on his lips, the kindness in his eyes. Without thinking, she stood on her tiptoes and pressed a gentle kiss to his cheek, a small gesture of gratitude and something more.
Scott's smile widened, and he held her a little tighter, as if he understood. "We'll figure this out together," he promised, his voice steady and sure.Y/N nodded, a smile finally breaking through her earlier frustration. "Yeah, we will."And as they stood there, holding onto each other, the world seemed a little less daunting, a little less heavy. Because she knew, no matter what, she wasn't facing it alone. She had Scott by her side, and that made all the difference.
