Joy's POV

I just really hate Samantha Turner's face. I hate everything about her. I hate the way she talks, the way she walks, even the way she breathes. Everything about her and stupid smile.

She just so happy all the time. It's just so annoying. The way she just looks like a toad's backside wart and how she laughs, it sounds just like a pig's un snort.

I don't know how she's so popular. Everyone else loves her, even the teachers. She has every boy wrapped around her 'prefect' and 'dainty' fingers. Her stupid boyfriend Michal is no better, star quarterback for the schools football team, loved by everyone. God I hate him.

I mean it's no surprise I hate her. Everyone knows about our rivalry. It started it kindergarten, she stepped on my legos I think. I pushed her and she pushed back. You both were sent to the principal's office and got in trouble that day. That's how this stupid rivalry started and it's lasted the past 12 years.

School starts in a week and I dread every minute the brings September 1st closer. However, since it's a summer in North Carolina, there's gonna be a hurricane.

As I help my dad board up the house for the upcoming hurricane and get a notification on my phone. I put down the hammer and pull out my phone from the pocket of my cargos.

A text from one of my friends saying school got postponed by a week so family's can recover from the hurricane. I let out a sigh and smirk knowing that I have a extra week of freedom the hellish place known as school and a extra week away from the dreaded Samantha Turner. I reply with a simple "cool" and turn off my phone.

I put my phone away back in my pocket and pick up the hammer again, securing the plank covering the window with another nail, shielding the window from ant debris that might damage the window.

I finish working on the house and held back inside. I head up to my room, ignoring my mom's hellos and how are you's.

I close my bedroom door and turn to my desk, a stack of homework assignments to do over the summer.

I know they're due in two weeks.

'I'll do it tomorrow.'

My German Shepherd laid curled up on my bed, sleeping. I walk over to Caro and pet his sleepy face, waking him up and in return I get covered in kisses and dog slobber.

I get in bed, scowling at thought of seeing Samantha's stupid face in two weeks when school starts in two weeks, however thankful it's two weeks instead of one because of the upcoming hurricane.
