Chapter 2: A Union of Convenience
The day of the wedding arrived, and Gu Sheng Nan felt a mix of emotions. She had envisioned a romantic ceremony, but instead, she was dressed in casual attire, heading to a registry office. The only upside was escaping her difficult life with the Gu family.
As she entered the luxurious Rolls-Royce Phantom, she couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. Even Gu Xiao looked envious. The driver greeted her, and she smiled, feeling a glimmer of happiness.
At the registry office, Gu Sheng Nan was surprised to learn that she and her groom would take separate photos, to be edited together later. She felt a strange sense of relief, not having to face Zhang Li yet.
Meanwhile, Zhang Li received a call from his assistant, Li Wei, warning him about potential threats from the Ming faction. Zhang Li's expression remained stoic as he ordered Li Wei to take care of the situation.
A call from an unknown number interrupted his thoughts. "Hey, new groom!" a teasing voice said. Zhang Li's eyes narrowed, but he remained calm, even when the caller mentioned Ming Yue's plans to negotiate Operation C.
Zhang Li's past flashed before his eyes. His father, once the underworld leader, was betrayed by Ming Yue's father. Now, Zhang Li was determined to claim the underworld throne and prevent the Ming faction from gaining power.
As he ended the call, his mind raced with strategies to outmaneuver Ming Yue. Little did he know, his new bride, Gu Sheng Nan, would soon become entangled in his dangerous world.
