The day drifts lazily into dusk, the sun melting into the horizon like a splash of orange paint on a canvas. West and her friends lounge in their hotel suite, music thumping softly in the background. They're all getting ready for Jesse's milestone party, excitement bubbling in the air. Avery stands in front of the mirror, applying a final touch of lipstick while Benny leans against the doorframe, scrolling through his phone.
Benny: (raising an eyebrow) Are you sure you want to wear that, Avery? I mean, it's a party, not the Met Gala.
Avery: (grinning) Please, Benny. If I can't show up in a dress that screams "look at me" at least once during spring break, what's the point?West rolls her eyes playfully as she rummages through her bag for something more appropriate.
West: (smirking) Just don't end up in someone's "What Not to Wear" youtube video by the end of the night, alright?
Avery: (dramatically) I'd rather be featured in "What Not to Wear" than be mistaken for one of those beach umbrellas again.Daniel, already dressed in a casual yet stylish outfit, flops down onto the couch, looking amused.
Daniel: I dunno, Aves. You'd pull off the beach umbrella vibe with that color.
Benny bursts into laughter, and Avery throws a hairbrush at him, missing just barely.
Avery: (mock-seriously) You're lucky I have a better aim when I'm drunk, bitch.
West finally finds her outfit—a vibrant crop top and flowy shorts—and holds it up with a flourish.
West: (smiling) Okay, what do we think? Is this too much or just enough?
Daniel nods appreciatively while Benny pretends to swoon.
Benny: (over the top) West, you're going to make every local boy in Miami weep. Slay mama.
Avery: (nodding) I already have a date but you're making this really hard for me, girl.
Benny: (pointing) Speaking of which, is Tara coming here or is she gonna meet us there?
Avery: (grinning) Here! I texted her earlier. She's totally down to come.
West: (raising an eyebrow) Did you tell her about our "no drama" policy?
Avery: (rolling her eyes) What's a party without a little drama? We're not going to a preschool recital.
Benny: (smirking) Ooh, I'm so excited to meet your lil boo thang. You're a real pain in my ass, so it'll be nice to have someone take you off my hands.Just then, there's a knock on the door. Avery rushes to answer it, revealing Tara, all bright eyes and confident energy. She wears a crop top and high-waisted jeans, looking effortlessly cool.
Tara: (grinning) Knock, Knock!
Avery: (smiling) Hey you! (pulling Tara in) We've been just sitting around waiting for you.
West: (quietly) Well, not necessarily but sure.As they all chat and get to know Tara, the laughter grows louder, the nervous energy morphing into a buzzing excitement. West throws a quick glance at the mirror, checking her hair one last time.
West: Alright, girls... and Daniel. let's show Jesse how it's really done.
They all share a final cheer before stepping out, the warm Miami air enveloping them as they head toward the party, the anticipation palpable.
West: (teasing) No getting blackout drunk tonight, right?
Avery: (snorting) You know that's like saying 'no waves at the beach.'
Benny: (grinning) We're just here for the free booze and some sweaty, feral sex!
Daniel: Huh?
Tara: (laughing) Honestly, as long as there's a table for me to dance on, I'm down for anything. They all laugh together. The music from Jesse's apartment grows louder. As West and her friends step into Jesse's party, the atmosphere hits them like a tidal wave. Bright neon lights pulse to the heavy beats of the music, and the air is thick with laughter, chatter, and the tantalizing smell of snacks. They weave through the throng of partygoers, drinks in hand, ready to embrace the night.
