The sun shines bright over Miami Beach. West sits on the edge of the couch, scrolling on her phone, looking increasingly frustrated. Music blares from one of the nearby bedrooms where the rest of the group is getting ready for the night's party. West takes a deep breath and shuts off her phone, staring blankly at the TV in front of her.
Avery: West! You better not be over there moping. We've got a beach party to get to! I also need you to rub sunscreen on my back!
Avery comes into view, half-dressed in a colorful bikini and cover-up, her hair still in the process of being styled.
Avery: Come on, I need you to help me pick out my sandals too! You're coming tonight, right?
West: (forcing a smile) Yeah, I'll be there. I'm just... finishing up a text. (sets phone down and stands up) I'll get ready now.Avery tilts her head slightly, noticing West's flat tone.
Avery: You sure everything's cool? You know, if you don't feel up for it, we don't have to go. We could just stay in and binge something.
West: (shakes her head) No, I'm good. It's just... hot. But a party will be fun. I'll get dressed.Avery gives her a concerned look but doesn't press further.
Avery: Okay, if you say so. I'm in the bathroom if you need me.
West waits until Avery leaves the room before sighing deeply. She heads to the bedroom and rummages through her suitcase.

West is now dressed in a black bikini with a crochet cover-up. She stares at herself in the mirror, adjusting her hair with an uncertain expression.
Why do I still feel so off?! Last night, I really started to feel like maybe, just for a moment, Maggie and I could move passed this. Fuck it. I'm in Miami for spring break in my friend's mansion for crying out loud. I'm gonna enjoy myself regardless!

The beach is crowded with spring breakers dancing, drinking, and posing for photos. There are bonfires scattered along the sand, illuminating the lively scene. The music shifts between pop, house, and reggaeton as West and the group walk through the party.
Benny: (pointing to the bar) Alcohol! I'm gonna get some hot idiot to get us free drinks. Wait right here. (winks)
West: Uh I'm actually gonna catch up with you later. Gonna look around first.West peels away from the group and heads toward the edge of the crowd, keeping a safe distance from the chaos. As she walks, she spots Maggie waving and stumbling towards her.
Maggie: West! (laughs, holding a red cup) I didn't think I'd see you here. Daniel told us you probably wouldn't be able to make it.
West: (forcing a smile) Yeah well I didn't wanna miss out on any of the fun. I kinda forgot how to party after all that studying for midterms so—
Maggie: (slightly pouting) Aww come on, loosen up! It's spring break. It's not like we're in high school anymore.Maggie's words sting a bit, reminding West of prom night, when everything went sideways between them.
West: (voice tight) Right. Anyway, I've got to—
Maggie: (cutting her off again, stumbling closer) I don't think we ever even talked about that night, you know. Prom. We were best friends, and then—West tenses, and before Maggie can finish her thought, she excuses herself quickly.
West: Okay I'm gonna grab a drink.
Maggie: I miss us, West. That's all! (takes another sip from her cup)• • •
