...

Three weeks had passed since Braylen's unexpected and confusing exit from her life. Seoni was still reeling from the way he'd flaunted that girl, Myla, on social media—he had posted a picture of them together, clearly showing off. It stung more than she cared to admit, especially since she was trying to move on and focus on her law studies.

On top of that, Seoni was feeling down about not hearing from her dad. She was sure he was still scared to talk to her after the letter he sent weeks ago. At this point, she could really use hearing his voice. It felt like a weight was pressing on her chest, making it harder to concentrate on anything else.

As Seoni sat through her law class, her thoughts were elsewhere. She kept replaying the image of Braylen with Myla in her mind. It wasn't just about the picture; it was the fact that he had seemed so detached from everything between them. She felt a sharp pang of frustration and sadness every time she thought about it.

The professor's voice droned on, talking about legal precedents, but Seoni couldn't focus. Her mind kept drifting back to Braylen and how he seemed to be moving on so easily. She scrolled through her phone under the desk, glancing at his recent posts—there was that same smile, that same smug look.

When the class ended, Seoni quickly packed up her things, trying to push away the lingering thoughts of Braylen. She headed out of the classroom, hoping the fresh air might clear her mind.

Lost in thought, she didn't see AJ standing by the door. As she pushed it open, she accidentally smacked him with it.

"Damn, shorty! Watch where you swingin' that door!" AJ said, stepping back with a chuckle.

Seoni's face flushed with embarrassment. "Oh, my bad. I didn't see you there."

AJ grinned, showing off a set of perfect teeth. "It's all good. Just tryin' to stay out the way of them door swings. You lookin' kinda lost though, everything cool?"

Seoni shook her head, snapping out of her thoughts. "Yeah, just had a rough day. Didn't mean to hit you like that."

"Nah, don't sweat it. I'm AJ, by the way. I've seen you around, but never had a chance to chop it up," he said, extending his hand. "You in the law program, right?"

"Yeah, I'm Seoni," she replied, shaking his hand. His grip was firm, and his gaze was warm.

"Nice to meet you, Seoni," AJ said, giving her a once-over with a genuine smile. "You got that look like you could use a break. I'll be around, and I'm here if you need a distraction from all that law stuff."

Seoni laughed softly, feeling a little lighter. "Thanks, AJ. I appreciate that."

AJ gave her a nod, his eyes twinkling with a hint of mischief. "For sure. I'll see you around, pretty. Don't let those books get you too stressed."
