Santana stared at her phone, Rashad's voice echoing in her head. She wanted to hear him out, but she had been down this road too many times before. Men always made things sound good, but their actions? Those were always a different story.

With a deep breath, she slowly made her way to the door. When she opened it, there he was, standing there looking like his mind was racing. She didn't say a word, just folded her arms, waiting.

Rashad shifted his weight, looking at her with that familiar serious look. "You really gon do me like this?" he asked, stepping forward a little. "I know you mad at me, but I ain't tryna play with you. Shit was crazy yesterday, but I don't want you thinkin I was out here on some bullshit."

Santana leaned against the doorframe, still quiet. She wasn't about to make this easy for him.

"I lost my phone, lost my damn keys, I had to crash at my buddy crib," Rashad continued, his voice calm but steady. "You really think I'd just ghost you like that? Come on, Santana. You know me better than that."

She eyed him, then finally stepped back, letting him inside. He followed her to the living room, but the silence between them was thick. They both sat down, tension still in the air.

"Look," Santana finally said, her tone sharp, "I ain't gone lie, I don't like this. I've lived this tale before, Rashad. Everything going smooth, then outta nowhere, shit gets weird. I don't wanna be out here lookin stupid"

Rashad leaned back, rubbing his hands together. "I feel you, for real. But I'm not these other niggas you dealt with. I ain't got time to be playing games, especially not with you. That's why I came straight here. I couldn't let you think I was on some weird shit."

Santana shifted in her seat, still not fully convinced. "Yeah, but you gotta understand where I'm comin' from. I don't trust easy, Rashad. You disappear for a whole day, I'm gon think the worst. That's just how it is.I understand everything now but in the moment I was thinking the worse."

"I get that," Rashad said, leaning forward now. "I ain't expect you to trust me off the rip, but I'm here now, right? I'm tryna show you I'm solid. I don't do all that flaky shit."

Santana rolled her eyes, but the tension in her shoulders relaxed a bit. She couldn't lie, Rashad had been different from the start. But her past had taught her not to get too comfortable.

"Alright," she said, exhaling. "We can try again, but I ain't playin. Boundaries, Rashad."

He nodded, a slight smirk on his face. "Bet. Whatever you need. Just know, I'm serious about you."

They sat in silence for a minute, the air between them easing up. Santana didn't want to admit it, but something about Rashad's calm energy was breaking down her walls. She wasn't gonna make it easy for him, but maybe he was worth a shot.
