OSAMU POV | FIRST YEAR OF HS | FEBUARY
spring was around, and my feelings for osamu only grew. and i think he felt the same considering we'd flirt all the time. he'd even wrap and arm around my waist or my shoulders if we were around others. was this his protective side?
we were in the middle of the inter-high prelims right now. that meant i didn't get to see osamu as much, but cheering the boys team on from the sidelines was enough for me.
right now we were playing a game against a team that went to nationals the year before.
"shit, it's too close to the net" i said to myself. luckily, aiko was able to get it over the net and the ball dropped on their court. "sorry about that, ill fix it next time" i said while giving her a high five. she nodded and we rotated. it was her turn to serve.
silence came over the gym as aiko got ready to serve. i won't lie, the student section was annoying sometimes. i'm happy that they're here to support us, but sometimes i felt bad when they boo'd the other team.
at least they weren't like shiratorizawa with their school song.
"good serve aiko" i yelled to her. she did her usual jump serve and got an ace.
the score was 2-1 so if we won this set, we'd be spared from the first round of the spring inter-high.
luckily, we were 24-20, so as long as they didn't interrupt our momentum, we'd win. just before the ref blew the whistle, the other team called for a time out. "oh fuck me" i muttered.
i sat on the bench and drank water, as the rest of the team was discussing. i closed my eyes and took a deep breath, trying to not let my focus stray.
usually our coaches let us tap during the timeouts if they felt like they weren't needed. "if we just keep playing we way we are now, we'll win" i shrugged my shoulders, putting my towel down on the bench.
the whistle blew signalling that the timeout was over. we all went back on the court. "one more point" i took a deep breath. "one more."
"stay focused y/n!" my coach yelled. once my concentration was broken, it was hard to get back. my mental strength was one of my biggest flaws as a player, but i continue to work on it everyday.
aiko served the ball and their libero managed to receive it. i saw keiko running to block the ball, but i noticed one of their hitter lurking, getting ready to jump. i quickly pulled keikos shirt and ran to the other side of the court.
my guess was correct and we managed to get the ball to drop on their court. the whistle blew and i celebrated with my team. "holy shit good call y/n!" our libero fumiko lightly tapped my back. "thanks" i replied as we all lined up at the net to shake hands.
we quickly went to thank our supporters before we walked off the court to grab our things. i immediately put on my track jacket to keep my body warm.
feeling tired, and dizzy from the amount of calories i burned, i immediately dug through my bag for a banana. "y/n!" i heard feet running up to us. "samu" i smiled as i peeled my banana. "you okay? you looked pretty out of it on the court" he asked, sitting down infront of me.
"i'm fine samu, just hungry. those energy jellies did not do much for me" i sighed. he put his hand on my knee and gave me a small smile. "im glad yer okay"
