6 YEARS LATER

It's been six years now since I've known Nailea. I proposed to her two years after the trial. I surprised her on a trip to Rome and proposed during breakfast.

I've always known she was not one for public proposals, neither was I, so I made sure it was just us. I made a crossword puzzle that spelled out, 'Will you marry me?'

When she finally got the hint, I was already down on one knee with the jewelry box open. She immediately said yes and I couldn't have been more happier.

A year later, we decided we wanted to have children. Nailea did not want to carry them so I did, I would do anything for her.

I gave birth to two beautiful baby girls named Sky and Luna. We decided to have them through reciprocal IVF, I wanted them to have Nailea's features and she wanted them to have mine. It was a win-win situation.

We adopted our son Dylan a few months after the trial. I met Dylan on the flight to California when I was going to visit my family.

I got a call from a social worker saying that Dylan was being abused by his foster parents. They found my number stored in his iPad and decided to reach out.

My heart immediately sank at the news and I did not think twice about taking him under my wing. Nailea didn't question it, we immediately both agreed that it was what's best for Dylan.

It took a lot of adjusting but we all got through it.

"Do you think the girls are going to come barge in here?" I said as I snuggled in closer to Nailea.

She chuckled as she placed a kiss to my forehead, "You know they are, it's their morning routine."

Right on cue, I heard little footsteps from outside the door. Nailea and I pretended to be asleep when we heard the door open.

"Lulu, they're still sleeping!" I heard Sky say as she tried to whisper.

"I want cereal, Dylan is still sleeping too!"

I heard them whispering to one another before they hopped onto our bed jumping up and down.

Nailea and I immediately lifted up from the bed and pulled them down on top of us, "Good morning, angels!" Nailea said as we showered their faces in kisses making them giggle.

I held Luna while Nailea held Sky.

"Lulu, I heard you mention that you wanted cereal," she grinned as she nodded her head.

"I want Frosted Flakes," she said as she tucked her hair behind her ear.

"Okay, baby. Go brush your teeth and meet me downstairs," she immediately hopped down from the bed and ran out the room.

I diverted my attention over to Nailea who was rocking Sky back to sleep, "Go on, I'll stay here with Sky," I nodded as I placed a kiss on both of their heads.
