Due to the nature of interpersonal relationships, Lia feels that she is all alone as she is neglected by her mother and has no father. The problems in Lia's life worsen as her friends, such Elliot and Sarah, attempt to intervene. Her mother is becom...
As Lia woke up, she saw many missed calls from Sarah. She didn't feel like talking to her, so she ignored the calls and got dressed for school. When she went downstairs, she noticed an unfamiliar lady making breakfast in the kitchen.
"Hello, where's my mom?" Lia asked, feeling a little confused.
"Oh, I'm sorry if I scared you," the lady replied with a gentle smile. "I'm Carol, your neighbor. Your mom went to the store and asked me to help get you ready for school."
"She probably went to buy some drugs," Lia mumbled to herself, feeling annoyed.
Lia quickly ate her breakfast. Carol watched her with a worried look on her face because Lia was eating so fast. When the school bus arrived, Lia rushed out the door without saying goodbye.
Lia felt upset. She didn't want to talk to Sarah or Elijah, and she was already frustrated with her mom. When she got on the bus, she saw Sarah walking in. Lia quickly looked down, hoping Sarah wouldn't notice her.
"Aurelia, is that you?" Sarah asked, sounding surprised.
"Oh, um, hi," Lia replied awkwardly. Sarah sat down next to Lia, looking frustrated. Lia kept staring out the window, trying not to look at her.
"Why didn't you answer my calls?" Sarah asked, sounding a bit mad.
"I just didn't feel like talking," Lia mumbled, still looking away.
Sarah sighed loudly. "You can't just ignore me, Lia. I'm your friend!"
Lia felt bad, but she was too upset to talk. She just wanted to forget about everything. As the bus got closer to school, she hoped maybe something good would happen today.
When they got off the bus, Lia saw Elijah near the school entrance. Her heart sank. She didn't want to talk to him either. But Sarah, still annoyed, nudged her hard.
"Come on, stop being so weird. It'll be fine," Sarah said, sounding impatient.
Lia took a deep breath and kept walking. As they got closer to the school, the sun felt warm on her face. For a moment, Lia felt a tiny bit better, like maybe today wouldn't be so bad. Maybe there was a little hope.
As they walked inside, Lia saw a poster about an art contest. She loved drawing, but she hadn't done it in a long time. Seeing the poster made her think about picking up her pencils again. It was just a small thought, but it gave her a glimpse of hope, something to look forward to.
Even though things were hard with her mom and friends, Lia decided she would try to find something good in the day.
