A U R E L I A ..... POV
"Lia, wake up, you lazy idiot!" Mom shouted again.
"I'm coming, Mom!" I called back, rolling my eyes as I hurried down the stairs."Ugh, oatmeal again," I muttered under my breath.
"Can you stop complaining and just eat?" Mom snapped.I was so tired of mom's crazy addictions and unnecessary behaviour toward me. This thing we call life is making me feel sick and wanting to disappear.
"And don't forget the trash, the chores, and everything else on the list," Mom said, shoving the paper into my hands.
"Does this all have to be done today?" I asked, surprised.
"Obviously. In fact, get it all done within the next hour."I looked at Mom in disbelief and quickly ran off to my room with tears in my eyes. I tried to finish my chores quickly but couldn't get everything done in time. Luckily, Mom wasn't home, which gave me more time. I saw many missed calls from Elijah, but I ignored them. I grabbed my headphones and cleaned as fast as I could.
"Phew, I'm finally done," I sighed softly.
"I don't know if I want to talk to Elijah right now," I muttered, feeling uneasy.I threw my phone onto the bed, watching it land without making much noise. Elijah could wait. Right now, I didn't feel like talking to anyone.
I pulled my knees up and hugged them, resting my head against the wall. The room was quiet, and for once, there was no yelling or rushing to finish chores. It felt strange, but at the same time, I needed it.
I looked around the room. There were clothes on the floor, books I hadn't opened in ages, and that list Mom gave me still sitting on my desk. I knew there was more to do, but right now, I didn't care.
I just wanted to be by myself. My head felt heavy with too many thoughts, and my heart felt even heavier. I lay back on the bed, staring at the ceiling, trying to block everything out.
For now, the quiet was enough.
