September 1990

AUTUMN ARRIVED WITH A GENTLE WHISPER, taking its time to paint the world in shades of amber and gold. The first tangerine leaves had already fallen, drifting down to the streets below, while many still clung to their branches, rustling in the crisp breeze. The world was suspended between the lingering warmth of summer and the encroaching chill of winter, creating an air of serene anticipation.

Rosalie stirred slowly, nestled in the soft, warm sheets that cocooned her. She rubbed the remnants of sleep from her eyes and gazed out at the horizon, where dawn's light extended across a rosy sky, hinting at a day brimming with possibilities.

"Darling?" The familiar voice of her mother drifted through the room, soft and melodic. "Are you awake?" Katherine's voice was gentle as she opened the door to Rosalie's room.

"Almost," Rosalie yawned, stretching lazily under the covers.

Katherine leaned against the doorframe, her smile warm and affectionate. "Alright, Rosie, remember you have to be at Hermione's house in an hour," she reminded her.

"I'm up," Rosalie giggled, sliding out of her cocoon of warmth and into the cool morning air. Katherine nodded approvingly before leaving to finish her own preparations.

Rosalie's grin widened as she passed her calendar on the way to the bathroom. The 19th of September had finally arrived—Hermione's birthday. The day promised fun, laughter, and memories to cherish forever.

Dressed in her favorite cutoff denim jeans, a cozy grey wool knit jumper, and silver ballet flats, Rosalie headed downstairs for breakfast, her heart light with excitement.

"Bonjour, Maman," she greeted cheerfully, giving a pat to the two four-legged canines that eagerly awaited her attention before settling at the kitchen island.

Katherine smiled, pressing a kiss to her daughter's forehead. "Bonjour, ma fille," she whispered, passing Rosalie a bowl of cereal.

"Are you all packed for this afternoon?" Katherine asked, her tone light but with an edge of urgency, as they would be returning to Marseille for the school year at Beauxbatons.

"Oui, Maman," Rosalie replied, her eyes sparkling with the anticipation of returning to France, especially with Mamie and Papi there.

As Rosalie ate her cereal absentmindedly, Katherine skillfully braided her hair into a fishtail, her fingers moving with practiced ease. "Tout est fait," Katherine announced, just as Matthew, Rosalie's father, entered the room.

"Morning, Papa," Rosalie chirped, hugging her father tightly.

"Morning, Bunny," Matthew grinned, kissing her forehead. Rosalie shook her head at the nickname but smiled warmly. "Excited to see Hermione today?" he asked, taking a seat beside her.

"Of course!" Rosalie nodded eagerly. "Did the Ministry let you come over again this year?" she asked, knowing her father had responsibilities with both the English and French Ministries of Magic.

Matthew nodded. "I just need to return every few weeks... but you can spend time with Nana and Pop while I'm working," he offered, watching her eyes light up with excitement.
