September 1994
AS THE SKY SHIFTED from night to morning, soft orange light crept over the horizon, gradually brightening the landscape. The warm glow filtered through the thin curtains of Rosalie and Gabrielle's dorm window, casting a gentle light on the stone walls of Hogwarts. Rosalie stirred as the sunlight brushed her face, her blonde hair spilling over the pillow.
She slowly lifted her head, still shaking off the last bits of sleep, and stretched her arms out with a yawn. Reaching for her watch on the bedside table, she blinked at the time and sighed softly.
Rosalie glanced over at Gabrielle, who groaned and buried her face in the blankets, clearly not ready to face the morning. With a quiet laugh, Rosalie got out of bed and walked over to her trunk, marked with the Beauxbatons crest. She pulled out her uniform: a blue skirt, blazer, long-sleeved jumper, stockings, and small heels. As she dressed, the familiar routine helped her shake off her drowsiness.
Gabrielle, half-awake, turned in her bed and rubbed her eyes. "Bonjour, Rosie," she mumbled sleepily.
"Salut!" Rosalie replied, her voice light and cheerful. She watched Gabrielle drag herself to the bathroom while the other Ravenclaw girls, were still tangled up in their blankets, fast asleep.
Rosalie quickly finished dressing, pulling on her uniform with ease. Gabrielle eventually reappeared, splashing some of Zera's "Wake Me Up" potion on her face in a groggy attempt to get going for the day.
As she awaited Gabrielle's readiness, Rosalie wove a simple crown braid into the top half of her hair, securing it with a matching school ribbon. Gabrielle, now dressed and looking eagerly toward breakfast, joined her with a tired but bright smile.
The Great Hall, which had been illuminated by thousands of floating candles the night before, was now filled with soft morning light. Sunbeams poured through the windows, revealing the long tables laid with golden plates and goblets, and trays stacked with breakfast options. The flickering candlelight had given way to a brightness that highlighted the hall's grandeur in a whole new way.
Despite the beautiful morning, the hall was much quieter than the night before. Only two large groups and a few smaller pairs scattered across the tables, a calm contrast to the bustling scene from the previous evening.
"'Mione!" Rosalie called out, spotting her friend's familiar messy hair among a group of Gryffindors.
"Rosie!" Hermione's face lit up as she rushed to hug her. "I can't believe you're really here!"
"I'm great," Rosalie replied, smiling widely. "I want you to meet someone. 'Mione, this is Gabrielle. Gabrielle, Hermione." The girls exchanged friendly handshakes.
"It's nice to meet you," Gabrielle said, her smile warm. "Rosalie talks about you a lot."
Hermione chuckled. "She's too kind. Please, sit with us for breakfast."
"I'd love to, but I need to find Fleur," Gabrielle said, sounding apologetic. She whispered something in French to Rosalie before leaving to look for her sister.
Rosalie sat between Hermione and a red-haired girl about her age, feeling a comfortable sense of belonging. "I love hearing you speak French," Hermione said, her voice welcoming as she took a bite of her breakfast.
