I glide across the seabed like a serpent.

Colourful treasure chests lay settled into the sand around me.

As I pass them, each little treasure chest swings open, and out swims a tiny axolotl, the colour of it's skin matching the colour of the chest it came from.

I continue like this for a while, until every chest has opened and every axolotl is free.

I am a princess, putting on my huge dress and elaborate wig on the front porch of my house.

A middle-aged woman helps me into the large skirt- I assume this must be my mother.

Two men approach us as we struggle. An older, grey haired man, and a younger man with brown hair and a big smile. The prince, I realise, my boyfriend.

The older man informs me and my mother that there has recently been mermaid sightings across the coast of where we live.

He promptly leads our group of four down to the beach, where we witness women, with hair and dresses of every colour you could imagine, breaking the surface of the water, flicking their glossy hair around in the sunlight. Mermaids.

The older man does not like the mermaids being here. He says we must kill them.

In a desperate attempt to protect them, I confess, "I'm a mermaid. I was the one who woke them all up."

Filled with rage, the old man attempts to sentence me to death.

Overwhelmed, I throw myself into the arms of the prince and we topple over. I lay there, holding him, knowing that my life has come to an end...
