CHAPTER SIX!
━━━ ❛ we all need some fun ❜ ♯
"ARE YOU LISTENING to me?"
Kayra's voice brought Elani out of the spiral of thoughts her mind was set on. Bringing her gaze towards the other girl, she blinked casually before popping a gum in her mouth.
"Not really, no."
With a sigh, the youngest opened the driver side of the door and stepped out. "We're here." she said, waiting patiently for Elani to follow her actions.
The two had chosen to spend the day at the mall upon Kayra's choice. She claimed to want to buy clothes with her best friend, and under unbelievable circumstances, Elani agreed.
She was yet unsure of the reason — had the woman explained her antics, perhaps she would've understood. But she didn't, so she found herself following after the dark-haired friend whilst she cheerfully walked throughout the vast space the building was set to be.
However, once she found herself in front of the record shop her brother worked in, she found herself even more confused — truth be told, a little more thrilled to know the reason behind their sudden arrival.
"Don't ask me why we're here, I actually don't know either." Kayra nonchalantly admitted, gaining an astonished look from Elani.
"What?"
"Your brother told me to bring you along so that he could tell us something."
Elani deadpanned, staring at her best friend. "You do realize he simply wanted to see you, right?"
The other abruptly turned around, an eyebrow raised and hands on her hips. To say she thought the girl before her was simply stating nonsense was an understatement.
"He didn't."
"Whatever flows your boat, Kay."
It wasn't apart of the newsflash. Afterall, Kayra and Hyunjin had been seemingly growing fond of one another ever since they met, which was about two years prior. Perchance, they'd never admit it — but Elani knew her brother all too well.
She'd notice the lingering glances he'd set upon Kayra anytime she would come over to the siblings' house. Or the small portraits of her he'd keep in his room, but left to dust like their love for each other.
What a tragic way to describe it. And yet, Elani could pinpoint the exact reason of why Hyunjin would accept waiting until his hair turned gray instead of making a move on the woman.
The way their parents had abruptly left them after years of leaving them to grow on their own played a reasonable amount of damage upon the two of them. It affected them differently, but the root of being scared they could not be associated with love stood strong.
Indeed, Hyunjin was scared. He was scared that he could not love Kayra like she would've deserved and therefore let art suck away at his love, interpreting a small bit of it on pieces of white paper. Even that saddened Elani, who was forced to see her very own brother lock himself away from something that she was sure would've been great.
Had Kayra shown the words she wrote for him, instead of keeping her heart hidden inside of a drawer, the pair would have maybe found a way to go ahead. But only time could tell them.
So, she waited. Elani waited for the two most important people in her life to be happy as if the happiness was her own.
And maybe, it was.
Clicking the soles of her feet against the concrete, the Hwang girl stepped past her best friend and pushed against the door, ignoring the bells announcing her arrival.
Hyunjin's head immediately perked up from his phone, which was held sideways to allow his thumbs to crash against the screen repeatedly. As soon as it came, his attention went back to the device laying in his hands.
"What's up, sis?" said girl made her way forward and pushed at his covered feet, who were laid on the counter before him.
"Playing and making yourself all comfortable over the counter?" Elani raised and eyebrow, crossing her arms just as Kayra walked into the shop as well, turning Hyunjin's smug expression into a warmer one as his eyes landed on her figure.
He keenly got up, walking towards her and engulfing her into a hug — the girl who was watching felt a tug at the sides of her lips, happy at the joy the two radiated.
"We're closed at this time of the day." a voice spoke up behind her, leaving her in wonder until she turned around. The puffiness of his cheeks and the shining in his eyes made it impossible for her not to recognize him as Han Jisung. A warm smile reached his eyes as he caught a glimpse of the couple still talking next to the entrance. "That's why Hyunjin was that comfortable."
"Oh." Elani nodded up at him, her smile matching his. "Makes sense."
A clap of hands, and their attention went back to the Hwang boy. The big smile displayed on his features and his hands now sitting on his hips left them eager for his next words.
"Party at Seungmin's house." was all he said, leaving Elani and Kayra to stare at him whilst he proudly smiled at them. "What?"
"Did you force him?"
Now, Hyunjin's smile was the one to disappear. "That's an extreme accusati—"
"He did." Jisung replied, looking away from the screen of his phone and smirking once the other man pointed his finger at him.
"It was for a good cause!" he replied, but once the shorter man raised a brow at his antics, he put his finger down. "Whatever, it's in a week so buy the stuff you need."
"Sure, captain." Elani playfully saluted. "We'll be back later, then."
And with that, the pair of best friends walked out of the shop, smiling at the bickering of the two men that they had left behind. "Where are we off to first?"
"Ma'am, we need the clothes we were talking about." Kayra explained, happily walking over to their favorite clothes shop in the mall. Half of their wardrobe was bought here, or at least, that's what Elani believed.
The latter smiled, interwining her arm with the woman's. "Let's go."
