Part 4: Legends Fall

"We have to tell the King and Queen about this." Mkali says, now turning to his team. "We won't be able to take them all on by our selves. We're outnumbered 12 to 1 against the hyenas alone." The guard nods and follows Mkali back to Priderock. They see Makini on the way back to Priderock (Makini is Rafiki's replacement, as he died between books).
"Hey, Makini! It looks like you're looking for something?" Koda asks, trying to be helpful to the mandrill.
"Yes, I am." Makini answers. "Have you seen my staff anywhere?" Makini asks.
"No, we haven't, but we'll keep an eye out for it." Mkali yells the mandrill.
"You don't think that Makini's staff going missing and Uovu's attack are related, do you?" Kushona inquires.
"I don't know. We should really get back to Priderock and tell Kiara and Kovu about this." Mkali answers. They run back to Priderock, and Mkali tells his aunt, uncle, and grandparents about the attack that is coming.
"How big is this army?" Kovu asks.
"So long as I'm doing my math right, the Lion Guard would be out 20 to 1." Kushona tells the King. Simba, Nala, Kovu, and Kiara all wince at hearing the number.
"What if the pride were to join the war effort?" Simba asks Kushona.
Kushona thinks for a second. "We'd still be outnumbered 3 to 1."
"And no offense to the pride, but I'm not sure they are fit to fight this war." Mkali says.
"Why do you think that?" Kiara asks.
"This isn't like Zira's invasion. Uovu will kill anyone and everyone, whereas Zira just wanted to kill Simba and dad. So we need animals who are also willing to kill if need be." Mkali explains.
All is silent for a bit before Kovu calls out for Zazu.
"Yes, Sire?" Zazu stands at attention, awaiting his orders.
"Go to the Backlands and get Kion and Vitani." Kovu instructs. Zazu flies towards the Backlands to do as the king said. "You want killers? We'll get you killers." Kovu says to his nephew.
Mkali nods, knowing that his dad killed Scar and Zira, and his mom was the best lioness in Zira's army. The two legendary lions and their daughter arrive within 2 hours of Zazu leaving.
"So, you made some enemies already, huh, son?" Kion says as he gets to the lair. Mkali smiles and runs over to hug his parents.
"Dad! Mom!" He exclaimed as he hugged his parents. He then looks at his sister. "Laika, still overdressed for the occasion." He says as he sees the blue dress his sister is wearing. She smiles at her brother and hugs him. "I don't even know the occasion." Laika responds.
"Oh, you know. Just a war is all." Mkali tells his sister.
"Wait, what!?" Laika responds.
"So what are the numbers looking like?" Vitani asks his son.
"We're outnumbered 10-1 with you guys fighting with us. We are fighting Uovu's clan of hyenas, who he apparently killed Janja and Jasiri to take over. We also have to fight Kiburi's crocodiles and Dogo's jackals." Mkali explains.
Kion sighs. "This is what I was afraid of. I was worried that demons from my past would come back to haunt you."
Mkali comforts his dad. "It's alright, dad. Let's just get this taken care of as fast as we can." Kion nods at his son.

2 years later...
The war has been raging on for 2 years now, with no end in sight. Mkali now has scars on his forearms, legs, and one on his stomach. Somehow, he is the only one in the guard who has had his gashes and scratches scar over. "I'm getting tired of this!" Mkali tells his father as they are in the heat of battle, as he slashes the throat of a jackal.
"Yep! The Outlands Civil War wasn't like this! We didn't have to kill, and it seems like in this war that every one animal that we kill, two take their place!" Kion says as he throws a crocodile against a rock.
Vitani comes running over to the father and son. "Kushona and Ono are in agreement that now would be a good time to use the roar!" Vitani says, then turning around and ripping the trachea out of a hyena.
"Do you want the honors?" Mkali yells to his father.
"Nope! This one's all you, bud!" Kion says as he kicks another hyena over to where the rest of Uovu's army is downed.
"Everyone! Look out!" Mkali says as he gets ready to use the roar.
"You're all clear!" Ono shouts from the sky as Koda, who is the last one to stop fighting, finally gets out of the way. Mkali takes a breath and unleashes his most powerful roar yet. This roar sends Uovu's army flying. And it cracks the ground and opens up a huge gap in the ground.
"Woah! I'm glad we're on his side! In the war and the hole!" Kovu jokes.
"I didn't see Uovu go flying!" Kushona says. Mkali walks closer to the hole to see how deep it is. "That fall could do some serious damage." Mkali says.
"Hapana! Mkali! Behind you!" Ono shouts from above as he sees Uovu charging at Mkali from behind. Kion and Vitani both see this, and they run to push their only son out of the way of the attack. Mkali stumbles, then falls, but he doesn't fall into the crater. Kion and Vitani, however, are both shoved into the crater. Mkali jumps up and runs to the edge.
"NOOO! MOM! DAD!" Mkali screams. Everyone is in such shock about what they just saw, that they all let Uovu escape. Mkali digs his claws into the side of the crater, and he slides down the side to check on his parents. He gets down there and sees his parents are unconscious, and bleeding badly. He starts shaking them furiously.
"Mom! Wake up! Dad! Please!" He shouts in absolute desperation. Tears are streaming down his face.
"Mkali. You're wasting your time. Come back up here." He hears his grandfather say, sounding like he is crying. Mkali feels for his parents' pulses. They have some, but it is weak.
"NO! THEY'RE STILL ALIVE!! THEY'RE BREATHING!! SOMEONE GET DOWN HERE AND HELP ME GET THEM BACK TO PRIDEROCK!!" Mkali shouts back up in absolute desperation. "PLEASE!!"
After hearing what Mkali said, his Lion Guard, Simba, Nala, Kiara, Kovu, Kopa, Fuli,Ono, and Bunga all descend down the hole to the three lions.
"He's right! They still have a pulse!" Ono exclaims.
"I know that! Now help me get them out of here so Makini can treat their wounds!" The group puts Kion on Misuli's back, and Vitani on Mkali and Kovu's back. Everyone else got under the three lions carrying Kion and Vitani and pushed them up the rock face. Once they got to the top, they put Kion on Kasi's back and Vitani on Fuli's back. The two speedsters took off as fast as they could to Priderock. Mkali was sprinting as fast as he could. "No! They can't die! Please! This is all my fault! Please don't let
