Oliver

I've known Oliver since Kindergarten.

I was crying my eyes out, wishing for my mother to come pick me up after only being there for 5 minutes.

I was sitting on a pink small plastic chair when someone sat next to me in the orange chair. I heard a small boyish voice say, "why are you crying?". I wanted to slap his face off for asking such a dumb question, instead I just said, "My mummy is gone."

He told me, my mum was going to come back, and I didn't need to worry, but instead hang out with him. After that he became my best friend.

When we got to primary school, I went to his house for a play date, and I met Olive. She was held back a year, because she wasn't able to "read properly" so she was still in kindergarten. When she was alone, she read books under a day, but when she was with others, she couldn't read one word. After a while, I helped her get more and more confident in reading and she was able to read way faster.

By the time we went to Secondary school, it was me, Olive and Oliver in a group. In Year 9 math class Olive met Marcus. They started dating a week later, but after a month broke up. Marcus stayed in our friend group, and it weirdly wasn't awkward.

Year 10 is where it changed. Oliver met Vanessa at church youth group. She was like the Suncrest version of Lavender Brown and, Oliver was her Ronald Wesley. She would call him Ols, like eww. Olly is a way better nickname, or Willy Wonka. She would act all nice in front of him, but with the rest of us she acted completely different. She thought me and Oliver were to close so she convinced him to stop inviting me to his house. Olive still invited me, which she obviously hated.

It got worse and worse to the point Vanessa started to bully me physically and verbally. I would be walking, and she would grab my hair telling me I was 'disgusting' and other things.

In August that same year, Oliver broke up with Vanessa after his mother, Amelia, died from cancer . She was the kindest person i have ever met. Her faith was as strong as stone. She was beautiful like the summer sun. She was perfect.

He stopped talking to me completely and Olive stopped inviting me to her house, she said her dad drank too much and 'it is way too embarrassing', but I knew something was off. Yet, I didn't ask.

After his mother died, he started smoking. I remember him telling me, 'Never smoke, especially if you are a teenager.' I know such a Conrad Fisher move. So, when I saw him smoking, I was shocked, but not as much as when I realized... he never cried

Seeing him cry in my arms because I was hurting myself was what really shocked me.

For the past 15 minutes we have been sitting in the car not saying a word. He just drove. I was scared he was going to take me somewhere like Jayden did, it was only when I saw my house I calmed down.

'I'm going inside', he said not looking at me as he drove in our driveway. I look at him confused. He climbs out the car opening my door and helping me out.

We walk inside my house turning on lights on the way to my room. My parents aren't home because of a work trip so it was just me. I go to my bed laying down as he just looks around. I'm exhausted

'Where is it?', he says quietly looking down at me. I raise my eyebrows.

What is he talking about?

'The thing you use, where is it?', he says.

Oh that.

I get up and walk to my bathroom getting the blade looking at it for a moment and turn walking back to him. He puts his hand out and I place the blade in his hand. He pulls me closer and hugs me almost making me stumble slightly.

He smells nice.

Like cologne, not the gross ones.

The good cologne.

'I'm proud of you.'

'For what?'

I let go of him walking to my bed laying down again. 'I'm a failure.' He walks over lying next to me on the bed. He brings me closer again before he says, 'You told me, you gave me the thing. You are letting me help you. So, I'm proud.' I lay on his chest hugging him back before I slowly fall asleep.
