the car ride to his bootcamp was silent. it's just them holding each other's hands in silence while the taxi driver drove quietly.
he held on to her her hands gently yet firmly. and like a kid she's too afraid to let go of his hands.
hyungwon's warm giant hands providing her with a sense of safety and comfort. as if even if the sky comes crushing down she'll be fine if he's holding her like this
hyungwon unconsciously drew small circles on the back of her hand and then he noticed something, he looked down to glance at her hands and there it is
her engagement ring.its missing.
he looked at y/n and then back at her hand, clearing his throat he started saying something
“love..” he tried to get her attention and she quickly turned to look at him “hmm?” she asked softly
her face looks so beautiful with just the moonlight being the only source of light in these dark and quiet streets
the wind making her hair messy, some strands falling on her face and some getting stuck on her lips which is covered with lipgloss.
he took in her beauty as if he almost forgot how to breathe
“umm..” he snapped himself back to reality “did you took off your ring?” he asked,his voice calm and gentle
she frowned at his words and quickly looked down at her fingers, checking to see that her ring was indeed missing
“oh lord where did it go?” her voice filled with panick, as she rummaged through the pockets of her trousers and her bag
“did you took it off for some reason?” “can you remember where was the last time you saw it?” he asked trying to make her calm down a bit
“nooo” she looks at him with eyes filled with apologies and panick “it was right on my finger this morning” she replied
“try to remember where did you actually saw it for the last time” he suggested “think slowly” he put a hand on her back as a sign of comfort
she tried to remember what she did this morning and where she went, she tried to remember everything precisely
that's when she remembered, she did took off her ring this morning
because her fingers were itching since she applied a new body lotion today which effected her skin badly leaving small red rashes here and there
“ahh i remember” she looked back at him, he nodded signalling her to keep going
“i did took off my ring today” she searched for his eyes “i applied a new lotion today and it..umm it didn't suit my skin so my skin was itching so it was really uncomfortable to have any ornaments on me” she explained
“that's why i took it off” she looked down “i’m sorry” she looked back up at him with apologetic eyes
“ri why are you apologising?” he asked her pulling her closer to him “because i took off our engagement ring and worse i even forgot to put it back” she really feels sorry for what she has done
“baby it's fine” he comforted her “it's really fine you took it off because of some reason and i totally understand it it's just a ring it doesn't matter” he assured her
but nothing works, she feels bad for doing so for taking off their engagement ring and forgetting to put it on again.
she feels like a bad fiancee who only thinks about her own comfort and doesn't care about others
she doesn't know why she's so upset about this, technically she had definite reasons to be upset about it but it feels like she's much more sensitive since yesterday
ever since she heard that he's gonna leave again she's been acting so sensitive each and every little thing makes her upset and she feels like crumbling down
“i'm sorry” she said quietly while a tear slipped down her cheeks
“are you crying?” hyungwon was quick to notice her tears “ri why are you crying? is everything okay?” he asked concern stained all over his tone
she nodded and continuted to cry while covering her face in her hand “baby…love what's wrong tell me” he pulled her more close to him while he rubbed his hands on her back up and down in a comforting manner
“i'm fine..” she breathed out “if you're fine you wouldn't be crying like this ri” he held her by her chin making her look at him
“what's wrong love tell me” his tone soft and gentle “i..i miss you so much” she finally admitted “i thought i have time to spend with you but—” her breath hitched “but you're leaving again…it just feels so lonely without you” she cried more
he quickly pulled her in a hug not caring if the driver is glancing at them through the front mirror
“i miss you too” he paused “actually i don't just miss you it's like a part of my own body is missing everytime i'm apart from you” he said in her hair while few tears runs down his cheeks as well
“but you know what?” he said pulling away to see her face, she looks at him with tear stained face “everytime it gets too much for me i remember that i have you”
“you're the reason why i'm able to endure all of those long nights” he cupped her face and wiped her tears with his thumb
“i promise you” he started “i promise you i’ll be back to you safely and i decided to retire after this ends” he said
this took her by surprise “retire?” she asked making sure she heard it right
“hmm” he nodded “i don't want to do this anymore” he sighed
“but it's what you loved” she said knowing he always had this dream to be a naval officer and serve his country “why are you giving up on it?” she asks
he takes a deep inhale before speaking “because i don't like this anymore” he said clearly “i don't like to be a naval officer anymore when it always parts me from my love” he explained
“i don't like to have a job where i always have to leave you behind” he kept on explaining “what's the point of having a job where im not even happy and have to leave my happiness behind always” he replied
she just looked at him, not sure what to say
“are you sure?” she asked, that's all she can say now, she can't force him into anything, it's all upto him
“more than sure” he said before kissing the back of her hand
“after i’m done with this..” he started “nothing and no one can make us apart” he said with a warm smile
“i promise you that” he said while giving her hands a gentle squeeze
