If anybody were to ask Regulus Black how many hours of sleep he needed to be awake and functional, he would reply an average of five.
It wasn't a lot, but those five hours were essential to him (even better accompanied with some cups of black coffee during the day).
Today, however, those five hours did not greet Regulus at all.
The fuckers.
At his phone alarm ringing, Regulus opens his eyes.
Not like having closed them had helped him sleep. Not in the least.
Sunrays entering from behind the window's blinds illuminate the room, making the lava lamp on his nightstand reflect its colours on the light grey walls.
Regulus turns in his sheets and reaches out to his phone, turning the alarm off.
With the alarm being off, he finds himself in front of Sirius' close-up he has as a lock screen. He snorts. His idiot brother had put it on himself and ordered to Regulus not to take it off. As if Regulus would ever. The endless teasing one could do.
He glances at the time. 6am o' clock.
He rubs his face while he contemplates whether getting up or not.
He's dead tired.
Usually, he manages to fall asleep quite immediately after laying on his bed.
Unlike Sirius, it's not something he was always able to do. When they were kids, he had struggled falling asleep everyday, the fear of his mother hovering above him in his sleep stopping him from closing his eyes.
With time, he had found himself comfortable enough to fall asleep in an empty room.
However, the past night he hadn't be able to catch not even a glimpse of sleep.
Somehow, a certain someone had managed to bother him even in his precious five hours. The jokes, the smirks, the laughs.
Regulus was pretty sure he was starting to hate him. Just how more cheerful could he get?
To tell the truth, what bothered Regulus the most was the thought that James Potter had started to feel so relevant in his life that he occupied his thoughts even during the night.
Therefore, he'd firmly decided that he would not spend time elaborating better on the case. It wasn't that important anyway.
He rubs his face once more before giving in and getting up from his bed.
He yawns lightly, wondering how many cups of black coffee he should drink to recover the lost sleep.
He figures three must be enough.
After quietly opening the blinds, he glances outside the room's window.
It's still dark outside, but with the street lights he can see that the day has already started. Groups of people walk fastly, probably hurrying to work. A couple passes under his window, hand in hand, a cup of coffee in the other. A girl is running, glancing at her watch to keep the time. A guy is walking his dog.
Life really never stops for a second. Regulus finds comfort in that.
He switches on his phone's screen just in time to see that an hour has already passed, it now being 7am.
Awesome.
He fastly gets dressed, before finding himself in front of his idiot brother's door.
The one thing Regulus likes doing in the morning, is getting to wake Sirius up.
With him working at his own store and all, he had decided that he could also choose the store's opening time. He'd say it was to "attract more clients with his well-rested face" but if you were to ask Regulus, it was just an excuse to sleep more.
