After parking the car the three of us head into the diner and sit down at the same booth we always sit at. Stan sits next to me with an arm thrown over the back of our seat while Ford sits across from us, looking out from the window.
I tap Ford's shin lightly with my foot to get his attention. "Something on your mind?" Ford quickly snaps out of his staring before looking down at the table, avoiding my gaze.
"N-Not really. Just thinking about some stuff." He answers with a shrug and a forced nonchalant tone. Stan shakes his head amused. "Not surprised at all. That's our Sixer huh?" He jokes as his arm casually makes its way onto my shoulder.
My eyes scan Stan's face for a moment as I feel my face flush slightly. I blink in surprise before taking my gaze off of him. "It sure is." I notice Ford's eyes focused on Stan's arm around my shoulder making me tilt my head slightly in confusion. Both of them are acting weird today.
"It's crazy to think we'll be seniors in a few more months." I say, trying to redirect the conversation. "What?!" Stan exclaims jokingly, playing it up as he gives me a shocked look. "We're getting old already?!"
Ford laughs at his twin's dramaticness. "Oh yes, we're definitely geriatrics. Practically ready to be put in the grave." My hand goes up to cover my mouth as I begin to laugh as well. Stan grins proudly upon seeing me laugh before glancing over at Ford. "See? She thinks I'm hilarious." Ford rolls his eyes at Stan's cocky expression.
"Correction. I think you both are hilarious. Also weird but that's beside the point." I give him a large grin before directing it towards Ford as well. Stan lets out an exaggerated gasp, putting a hand to his chest in mock offense.
"Us weird? Then that makes you weird too since you're associated with us." He pokes my forehead making me become more flushed. A waitress comes with menus, interrupting us.
As she goes to place them down on the table I pipe up. "No need for menus, we know what we want." I smile kindly at her. The waitress nods with a smile before picking the menus back up. "Then what'll you three be having?"
"Pancake combo for me." Stan answers first, just like he always does. She jots down his order before glancing at Ford next. "French toast combo for me." Ford says before the waitress looks at me.
I lean back slightly as I look at her, making Stan give my shoulder a slight squeeze. "Can I have a ham and cheese omelette? Oh and a chocolate milkshake. No whipped cream please."
The waitress nods with a smile, writing down my order before taking the menus. "Got it, I'll be back with your food soon." With that she turns and heads to put our orders in.
"So why did we start a tradition of ordering breakfast food after school?" I questioned. "I wonder if there's a psychological reason for this phenomenon." I joke slightly.
Ford takes the question seriously. "It is a curious phenomenon. It could come from the comfort and familiarity that pancakes and French toast provide after a long day of class for us."
Stan looks at his brother with a deadpan expression. "It's because breakfast food slaps, Sixer." I hum out in thought. "A literal and emotional response. That is also an interesting thing that could be looked into." Ford leans in, interested in discussing the topic. "Indeed. It could be a way for us to have a physical response to the stress of the day through the comfort of food."
He raises an eyebrow at Ford and I. "You two are such nerds I swear. You make everything sound so formal and scientific." He then pauses to look at me. "Kinda shocking how nerdy you are since you're so pretty."
I cross my arms playfully. "What? Nerds can't be pretty?" Stan shakes his head. "That's not what I meant, I'm just saying it's a surprise that you're a total smarty pants when you're also so pretty."
