Ethan had barely stepped into Dr. Vale's lab when he sensed a new presence in the room. Standing near the far wall, examining one of Dr. Vale's charts, was a tall figure clad in dark, tactical clothing. The figure turned to face him, and Ethan saw that it was a young woman, her eyes sharp and assessing, her stance relaxed but ready to spring into action at a moment's notice.

"Who's this?" Ethan asked, his gaze shifting between Dr. Vale and the newcomer.

"This is Zara," Dr. Vale said, her tone steady but with an edge that suggested this was not a casual introduction. "She's a Shadow Hunter. One of the best."

Zara crossed her arms, her eyes narrowing slightly as she looked Ethan over. "So, you're the one causing all this trouble."

Ethan bristled at her accusation. "I didn't ask for any of this. I'm just trying to figure out what's happening and stop it."

Zara raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. "From what I've heard, you're fumbling around in the dark, kid. The Shadow Realm is dangerous—more dangerous than you seem to understand."

"Zara has been dealing with the Shadow Realm for years," Dr. Vale explained, stepping between the two. "She's been hunting Shadow Wraiths and other entities long before you even knew about the Shadow Realm."

Ethan felt a surge of defensiveness but swallowed it down. "I'm doing the best I can," he said, meeting Zara's gaze with determination. "If you have any advice, I'm willing to listen."

Zara seemed to consider his words before nodding slightly. "Good. Because you need a lot more than determination to survive what's coming."

Dr. Vale gestured for them to sit down, and the three gathered around a large table covered with maps, notes, and diagrams. "The Shadow Wraiths are becoming more active, and they're not acting alone. We've detected signs of coordination, which means someone—or something—is guiding them."

"Any idea who?" Ethan asked, leaning forward.

Zara tapped a finger on one of the maps, marking a cluster of recent Shadow Wraith sightings. "There are rumors of a powerful entity in the Shadow Realm—something ancient, something that's been dormant for a long time. Some call it the Shadow King."

"The Shadow King?" Ethan echoed, feeling a chill at the name.

Dr. Vale nodded. "If the Shadow King is truly rising, it could explain the increased activity. The Shadow King would have the power to breach the veil between our worlds and bring the Shadow Realm's darkness here."

Zara's eyes narrowed. "Which is why we need to be prepared. Ethan, you may have power, but you lack training. If you're going to survive—if we're going to stop this—you need to learn how to fight, how to control your abilities, and how to think like a Shadow Hunter."

Ethan hesitated, realizing the magnitude of what she was saying. "You mean... you're going to train me?"

Zara gave a small, almost imperceptible smile. "If you can keep up."

For the next few hours, Zara put Ethan through his paces, testing his abilities and pushing him to his limits. She taught him how to channel his power more effectively, how to sense the presence of Shadow Wraiths before they appeared, and how to use the environment to his advantage in combat.

Ethan found the training grueling but exhilarating. For the first time, he felt like he had some control over the situation, like he could actually make a difference. Zara was a tough instructor, but she was also fair, and with each session, Ethan grew stronger and more confident.

As they wrapped up their training for the day, Zara looked at Ethan with something approaching respect. "You've got potential, Blackwood. But the potential isn't enough. You need to be ready for anything, and that means you need to be smarter, faster, and stronger than whatever the Shadow Realm throws at you."

Ethan nodded, exhausted but determined. "I'm ready."

"Good," Zara said, her expression serious. "Because this is just the beginning. The Shadow King is out there, and he's not going to wait for you to catch up. If we're going to stop him, we need to act fast."

Ethan felt a renewed sense of purpose. The Shadow King was rising, and it was up to him, Zara, and Dr. Vale to stop him before it was too late. The shadows were closing in, but Ethan knew he wouldn't face them alone.
