♥️✨♥️✨♥️✨♥️✨♥️✨Mia's POV
To say I was perplexed is an understatement. How could Andrea do something like this?
I mean, we were friends not even a year ago, for fucks sake. But now, she doesn't just only bother me, but she sends her friends to sabotage me, and now- she even dares to steal my mom's necklace? How can she do this to me?
If it hadn't been for Nate and Axel, who got the necklace back to me, I would have lost it forever. I would have been devastated if I had lost it. It's the last thing I have of her besides my pictures.
I sigh as the auction continues and see my sculpture finally being brought to the stage. Sophie's eyes light up, and she wiggles in her seat as she looks at it.
"Baby, it's this one. This is the one I was telling you about! Isn't it beautiful?" she tells Logan, making him look up from his phone.
He had been looking at his phone and reviewing his stocks during the auction. Not much caught his eye, so he stopped looking at the items being sold.
"Wow, Mia... you did this?" he asks in a low voice, with a big smile that makes me blush.
"Yes,"
"Wow. It's beautiful," he says, making a smile.
"Thank you."
"It's beautifully detailed. No wonder your mom didn't give up trying to bring it into the auction," Axel tells Nate.
"Yeah, Mia is very talented, Ax. Mom has a keen eye for these things. I'm glad Mia allowed this to be donated. It will be cherished in someone's care instead of abandoned in the school storage somewhere before being thrown out." Nate says, grabbing my hand and squeezing it lightly.
"This piece is one of a kind by a new and upcoming artist, sponsored by the Spencer's art project. It's titled, 'Sorrow,' and it's worth three million dollars." the announcer says, making my eyes widen in shock.
I can't believe the price they had set for my art piece. I never thought it would be priced so high. I look at Sophie in shock, who smiles and winks.
"The bidding will start at the piece value," the announcer says, and right away, three men fight over the piece. To my surprise, Jordan's dad, Leroy, who has been quiet and un participant this whole time, lifts his number with a stoic expression and says calmly, "Twenty million,"
One of the men grunts, fisting his hand, while the other two look at him murderously. But his wife Amanda looks at me, sending me daggers with her eyes.
"Twenty million, sold to Mr. Leroy," the announcer slams his gavel and points to Leroy, who smiles from ear to ear and nods happily.
I have never seen rich folks spend so much money so carelessly as today. But I guess if it has a special meaning, you'd pay any amount possible, just as I'll have to work for Axel until I pay off the amount he spent on my mom's necklace.
The auction ends, and Sophie ends with Nate's painting of a girl's face with eyes closed, done in multiple colors. It was a really pretty picture he had drawn last year. I remember because I had gone to visit his family around Valentine's Day.
His mom was hosting a baby shower for my sister Audrey. Nate was home, finishing the last touch on that painting.
His mom had loved that painting, but the art teacher had asked him to leave it at the school to display it in her art studio, so he gave her permission to keep it hanging on the wall of her studio.
Everyone slowly exited the auction room, and I couldn't help but overhear Amanda scolding Leroy for spending twenty million on a sculpture.
'I don't care if that woman's kid created that sculpture, twenty million is preposterous. What about Jordan, do you not think of our son? He's going to college next year. Do you have any idea how expensive it's going to be?" She whisper yelled, looking at him murderously.
He sighs, looking away as he clenches his jaw angrily. His eyes soften when he realizes I was looking at him. I immediately look away, waiting on Nate to escort me out while he and his family talked with Axel and two other executives.
"Jordan is well off, Amanda. He is not going to go through any scarce or student debts as you and I had to go through. We have more than plenty of money to pay for a dozen universities."
"That's not the point, Leroy."
"Then what is?" He asks angrily, looking at her with a menace, making her take a step back seeing him anger.
"Just because you can't stand her mother, who by the way has been dead for over ten years now. It doesn't mean I can't help to support her. It's the least I can do. I've not been responsible for my actions, it's time I do." He says, making me feel puzzled.
"Leroy, don't you dare-"
"Enough! I've allowed you to manipulate my life and Jordan's all this time because I have felt guilty, but enough is enough, Amanda. I've had enough of this, neglecting my own-" he pauses, realizing I was still there, but... curiosity was eating at me.
What the hell did he mean? What obligations did he have toward me? He was not part of my family, we were not related at all. What did he mean by his words and why does Amanda loath my mom so much?
I had given up on the thought long ago on Jordan's words and what Steven had said... there was truths I needed to unfold. But the thought of it made me scared. Mom was my everything. What if...
What if what I uncover will forever deter what I think and imagine my mom to be? I don't know if I want to know the truth behind my mom's death or why Amanda despises her so much.
Amanda is a beautiful woman and despite her loath toward my family, I look up to her. She's strong willed and a strong woman. She has had so many obstacles that she has over come, and has been recognized by so many people as a great lawyer. I don't like being on her bad side, I don't like the idea that she doesn't like me, especially because Jordan is one of my biggest and most important friends in life.
Whatever these secrets are, I'm going to have to suck it up, find the courage and talk to my dad about it. I have to know the truth. For real this time.
