After the intense battle against Gaghiel, the trio of spider-powered heroes—Shinji, Asuka, and Rei—were granted a well-deserved week of rest. The days passed in a blur of relaxation and fun as they explored the city, visited parks, and even managed to sneak in some time at the local carnival. It was a rare opportunity for them to feel like normal teenagers, free from the burden of their responsibilities, if only for a little while.
The carnival was a lively explosion of colors, sounds, and smells. Children ran around with cotton candy, couples enjoyed the rides, and the air was filled with laughter and excitement. Shinji, Asuka, and Rei blended in as much as they could, trying to enjoy the moment. Shinji couldn't help but smile as he watched Asuka fiercely compete in a shooting game, determined to win a giant stuffed animal, while Rei seemed quietly content just watching the vibrant chaos unfold around her.
"This is nice," Shinji thought to himself, almost forgetting the constant danger that lurked just beneath the surface of their lives. Almost.
But the peace was not meant to last.
As Shinji stood in line for a ride, his walkie-talkie crackled to life, Gendo's stern voice cutting through the festive atmosphere like a knife. "Attention, pilots. Two angels have been detected."
Shinji's heart sank. The walkie-talkie wasn't just for emergencies; it meant that something serious was happening. He quickly glanced around to see Asuka and Rei reacting similarly, their expressions instantly shifting from relaxed to focused.
"The first angel, Israfel, has appeared near your location at the carnival," Gendo continued. "And the second, Sandalphon, has emerged from the northern volcano. Sandalphon's presence is causing a massive eruption, threatening to engulf the surrounding area in lava. You will need to split up. Rei, take on Sandalphon. Shinji and Asuka, handle Israfel."
The connection cut off, leaving them in the thick of the situation. The three exchanged quick, serious glances. There was no time to lose. The carnival, once filled with joyous noise, was now descending into chaos as the angel's presence caused widespread panic. People screamed and scattered, running for their lives as the massive, menacing form of Israfel appeared in the midst of the festivities, its dual forms towering over the carnival rides.
"Looks like the fun's over," Asuka said with a determined glint in her eye, already slipping into her suit behind a nearby tent. "Time to get to work."
Shinji nodded, following suit. "Let's do this. Rei, be careful out there."
Rei's expression remained calm as she nodded back. "You too. Israfel is a formidable opponent."
With their identities still a secret, they quickly blended into the chaos, slipping away from their friends and disappearing into the shadows to change into their spider suits. Once suited up, they reconvened briefly to strategize.
"I'll handle Sandalphon," Rei said, her voice coming through clearly over their comms. "It's too dangerous to let the lava continue to flow unchecked. I'll do what I can to stop it before it reaches the city."
"Got it," Shinji replied. "Asuka and I will take care of Israfel. Be safe out there."
With a final nod, Rei swung off towards the north, her spider-suit blending seamlessly into the sky as she made her way toward the volcano and the approaching angel.
Shinji and Asuka turned their attention back to the carnival. Israfel was a unique angel, capable of splitting into two separate entities that could coordinate their attacks with terrifying precision. They had to be careful, especially in such a densely populated area.
"Okay, here's the plan," Shinji said as they observed Israfel wreaking havoc. "We'll have to split up and take each half of Israfel on separately. We've got to keep them from reuniting or we're in serious trouble."
