At the beginning of time, there were only angels.
'Angel' doesn't exactly paint a good picture in someone's head. Normally, it'll consist of a cherubic baby, a golden halo and a whole lot of glitter.
These angels weren't like that at all. They were all frozen in the prime of their youth, and flitted in and out of Heaven as they pleased. They didn't have haloes- except for the Archangel- but they did have wings- white and feathery, like a dove's. The way that things worked was that they worked hard, spread happy thoughts and took orders from the Archangel. Those were the rules.
But, as everyone knows, every rule has an exception.
For a long time, the angels were happy. They did no wrong. Mostly, they thought no wrong. It seems everyone's mind has an angel and a devil fighting for a voice. And then, one day, an angel gave in to its devil.
No one knows what it did. It was simply said that one of the Seven Deadly Sins had been committed. The angel was cast out, and became the first Fallen. That angel was the Devil.
Devils don't look like angels. They have scarlet or black horns protruding from their heads, and a forked tail. On their backs are bat wings, large and leathery and dragonish, the colour of the night. They whisper into humans' minds. They are the voice that counters the angels. They are the dark that swallows the day.
