*Alan's POV*

Eric and I took a few minutes to change and clean ourselves before beginning our walk. I grabbed a beanie and pulled it over my ears before exiting the house. Stepping outside, the air was crisp, yet chilly. A light breeze carried the smell of fresh autumn leaves. I trembled a bit, and rubbed my hands together. Eric noticed, warming me with a loving arm that held our bodies close. He felt so comforting. So... fateful. As if, here together, was where we were meant to be. I snuggled into his embrace.

We walked around the campus park, which was filled with pigments of red, orange and yellow. After a while, we sat on a bench, listening to the rustle of the trees. A gust of wind flew towards us, taking my hat in its gentle stream. I sat up, watching the cloth land in a nearby alley. "Here, I'll get it," Eric offered.

"No, it's alright I've got it," I replied with a sweet smile.

"You sure?"

"Of course."

"Alright, be careful..." I could tell Eric was a bit skeptical of the alley. I kissed him on the forehead. "I'll be fine! Be right back!" I stood up, following the path, my hat took. Upon entering the shade of the alley, my entire body shuddered. The air became dusty, and I could hardly stand to breathe it in. Lurking further into the dull light, I found that my hat had landed behind a dumpster. With the beanie in sight, I turned the corner of the metal bin. Just as I reached down to retrieve it, a scruffy voice appeared behind me. "Hello... Shinigami..."

The disembodied voice sent chills down my spine. It haunted my scenes as I dared a side glance at the being. Upon doing so, I shrieked. The monster that stood before me could only be described as a demon. In its true form. It looked almost like a cross between a wolf and crow. It had a pitch black feathered head with horns that jutted out from behind. Pointed teeth sheltered a spiky black tongue with lifted lips that revealed a snarl. The thing's body was auburn, with a black tint. It stood multiple heads above me, greasy fur pointing every which way. It had large claws that were at least a foot long.

Before I realized the claws were reeling back, I felt a piercing pain thrash against my torso. My skin tore open as blood gushed from the wound. I doubled over, sinking to my knees. Looking down, I tried to comprehend what had happened. The demon stared down at me laughing, "I'll see you soon, Shinigami..." The second he finished, he disappeared. Leaving me, to bleed on the floor of an alley.

I brought my arm to the nasty opening. I soon found myself trying to call for help, but my voice became lost in an endless void. I strained to say something, anything, as tears streamed down my face. Suddenly, the wound began burning, as if acid were entering it. And in only a second, it felt as if a thousand tiny thorns were wedging themselves inside my flesh. They scattered to every limb and crease of my body until each inch was flaming with utter pain. They rammed into my veins, piercing and striking the vessels until one last thought occurred to me.

I love you, Eric...

With that... I slipped into a null of shadows... and closed my eyes.
