Matteo"She is just like you! And she has your eyes. She is six now going on twenty-one, I swear!"
Sandra said with a small chuckle.
I stared at the videos of my daughter on Sandra's tablet. My daughter Brielle is absolutely the most beautiful little girl I have seen. She has my eyes but her mother's bronze skin tone.
Brielle has the kind of beauty that would land a father right back in the slammer. To think I almost didn't know she existed, I have never been happier that Rayna my child's mother didn't listen to me, and abort Brielle.
The last time a few years ago Rayna came to see me and told me she was pregnant with Brielle. I told her to abort Brielle and move on with her life without me.
At the time I was facing a twenty-year prison sentence for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. I wanted Rayna to live her life and forget about me.
I also took her off my visiting list as well.
She tried a couple times before to visit but I sent her away. At the time I was doing the right thing by her, but after reflecting I realized I royally fucked up.
I tried to reach out to Rayna, but her number was changed.
I also wrote letters, but they all came back return to sender.
I wasn't mad.
I made my bed, and I very much had accepted that I had to lie in it.
Sandra my ex's mother reached out to me last month. She apologized for how she treated me when Rayna and I were together and hired me a good lawyer to appeal my case. My appeal was granted, and my conviction was overturned.
In less than twenty-four hours I would finally be a free man.
Sandra came to visit me today and dropped the bomb on me that Rayna had my baby when I was six months into my sentence.
She also explained to me that my grandmother and mother deny to this day that Brielle is mine. Rayna even did a DNA test, and it proved that Brielle was mine.
It's not surprising to me that my grandmother and mother were acting like that. They never cared for Rayna because she of the color of her skin.
My Resse girl.....I never stopped loving her.
Rayna and I were very much like a modern-day Romeo and Juliet, so to speak.
Rayna's mom had an issue with me because she felt I wasn't good enough for her. And my grandmother and mother had an issue with Rayna being black.
But I definitely will be handling them when I get out.
When Sandra first came to me, I asked her why she wanted to help me? She replied with " you will figure it out soon"
Now I know why no child should have to grow up without a father if they don't have too.
"Does Rayna know your helping me?"
I asked Sandra. She shook her head no.
"I want you and my daughter, and granddaughter to be happy, I'm not doing this get something out of it, and my granddaughter having both parents in her life"
I nodded then asked, "Can you please give her these letters for me, I want her to read them before I see her, please?"
I then slid the letters to Sandra.
She picked the letters up and studied them.
She had a look of confusion and disbelief on her face.
"These never came to her house; I know because I check her mail every day for her while she is at the school"
