I stuck my tongue out at Tia, she continued to glare at me with her arms folded. Even though she didn't react much I still smiled. We were both waiting for Brianna to finish grabbing her last things.

''Alright, we're ready to go.'' Hoodie stated

''Okay kid, let's go.'' Masky added

I had no choice but to follow them. Staying at this cabin for the past two days was fun. It was pieceful not having that many people around. Although being stuck in a smaller space together with Tia wasn't so nice. It caused us to bicker more.

''Tia?'' I started

''I keep telling you to call me Masky.'' She grumbled

I knew that she preferred Masky, I just wanted to make sure I had her attention. Only Brianna, and probably the Slenderwoman, are allowed to call her Tia. She takes her Masky Proxy persona way too seriously.

''How f-far away is the mansion from here?''

Masky groaned and let out an irritated sigh.

Geez it was just a question...

''...It's about a half an hour walk. Could be less.'' Hoodie interjected

''Alright.'' I sighed

In a way, staying at the cabin felt like vacation. When we had arrived at the cabin we had gotten back from a mission in town. So I had no idea how far the walk between the cabin and mansion was. The cabin is closer to town compared to the mansion, that's all I knew.

None of us talked, the sound of birds singing and our footsteps made the silence less noticeable. I was walking behind them. Not my fault they were walking fast. Also not my fault for having short legs. I looked up at them. Brianna is at least a head taller than me, Tia was maybe one inch taller than me, but I always say we're the same height. I let my gaze fall back down and stared at Brianna her boots. The rhythmic pattern of walking hypnotized me. Each step had my attention with its monotonous crunch of dead leaves being crushed. I zoned out and let my thoughts wander.

''We're here.'' Masky bluntly announced

I looked up and saw the mansion. Aww, so soon? We entered and walked straight to the Slenderwoman's office. Not running into anybody on the way. Strange. Normally you pass at least one or two people when walking through the mansion... Masky knocked on the door and we got permission to enter.

''Glad to see you two back. Has Torri been giving you any trouble?''

You two? Of course she wouldn't be happy to see me again. Even though I didn't want it to, that remark hurt me more than I'd like to admit.

''Well...'' Masky started

''Torri just got a lot of stimulus from being at a new place. She's been curious. Nothing we're not used to. The mission went fine.'' Hoodie quickly interjected

''That's good to hear. I'll give you girls some time to unpack before you'll show me the report. For now, you're all dismissed.''

''Yes ma'am.'' They both said in unison

The Slenderwoman slightly turned her head towards me. I quickly looked away and tightly gripped the straps of my back pack. Even if she doesn't have eyes I always try to avoid eye contact with her.

I wanted to be back in my room. Sleep in my own bed. Have my own little space again. Brianna and Tia left the office, me following close behind. They went straight to their offices. And like that, I got ditched. I went to my room and unpacked my stuff. Then I took a shower and put on comfy clothes. If they need me, they'll know where to find me.

I stayed in my room until dinner. There wasn't a reason for me to leave. Wasn't in the mood for socializing. I felt drained.

Not many people showed up at dinner. Must've been on missions. Or they weren't in the mood for pasta. Either way the ones that did show up, I didn't care to interact with.

After dinner I went outside to sit on the swingset and gently swung back and forth.

I wonder what Jane is doing right now. It's so hard to read her, she's so mysterious and quiet and cool and– We should hang out again. I keep stopping myself from asking her to spend more time. I always start thinking negatively of myself. Why would she want to hang out with me? She's out of my league.

''Hey.''

I almost had a heart attack– I quickly looked up. It was Jane. What are the odds? I smiled and mentally cringed at myself. I wasn't wearing my mouth guard or a mask so my scar wasn't covered up. I didn't like it when people could see my mouth or smile. I get hyper aware when I'm smiling. All I can think about is how weird my smile looks now. Then I try to stop smiling but that looks even more awkward... I hate my scar.

She sat down on the empty swing next to me.

''H-Hi Jane, what's up.''

''Wanted to go out for kidneys tonight, but I saw you sitting on the swingset so I wanted to swing by before I left.''

I chuckled. I love puns. Tia also loves puns, Brianna is sick of hearing them though. Me and Tia sometimes make bad puns on purpose to make Brianna cringe. It was harmless teasing. We knew deep down Brianna didn't hate it, but she does dislike the really bad ones–

''I heard that you and the Proxy moms had to stay at a cabin.''

''Yeah! It was my first time b-being there and it was honestly r-really fun. I'd love to show you sometime. I know the w-way now, and I know where they keep the keys–'' I smiled

''That would be cute, it sounds cozy.'' Jane chuckled

I felt my heart flutter.

We talked about the mission and cabin. Jane filled me in on things that happened when we were gone. Nothing out of the ordinary but I liked being up to date. Also I liked listening to her talking. Even if her voice is a bit muffled by her mask, I still think it's pretty.

''Anyways, I'm headed off now. It was nice talking to you Torri, it's good to have you back. The mansion feels incomplete without you three here.''

''Y-Yeah! I, uhm, it's nice to be back again..! And it's nice to see you again. Stay s-safe out there Jane, i'll see you later!'' I smiled

Dammit I said nice twice. I hate how I'm bad at small talk and goodbyes. Wish we could've talked longer. I hope my socially awkwardness wasn't that noticeable.

Who am I kidding it totally was,,,

I waved at Jane and watched her disappear into the darkness of the forest. She's so kick-ass. After a few more minutes of swinging I went back inside to my room. I lit a scented candle and read a book in the comforting glow of the small flame. My room smelled like lavender now.

I wonder what books Jane likes...
