''P-Please, I really need your help. I don't know how to stop the bleeding.''

I did my best to guess where EJ's face was in the dark so I was looking at him. I had to look up, that's what I knew for sure. Even if I couldn't see him, he could see me. It felt weird to be so vulnerable around him.

Jack sighed.

''You need to stop relying on other people to help with your countless injuries. Then again, the Proxies should teach you how to take better care of yourself.''

''They never w-want t-to make time for me. So I barely bother asking.''

''Aren't they supposed to help you..?''

''I get help but never much information.''

There was a moment of silence. I was preparing for Jack to say I should wait for the other Proxies so they can help me. Since officially I wasn't his problem.

''Okay, i'll help you.''

Despite his hesitation Jack decided to help attend to my wound. He grabbed me by my upper arm and guided me to his couch so I could sit down. All the while without turning on any lights. I wondered if the basement had any lights in the first place. I barely come down here. Jack barely comes up to us. Without saying anything he walked off and I heard him rummage through a few things. In the meantime I fumbled with my hands. I looked around the room. It was pitch black everywhere. Not even the slightest bit of light peeking through closed curtains from a basement window. Or light peeking from under a closed door. Only darkness.

Alright, things could've gone worse. I haven't been killed, yet. To my surprise he's helping me, I was afraid my words wouldn't mean anything to him.

I stopped fumbling with my hands when I heard Jack making his way back to me. He grabbed my leg to presumably examine it. Still had to fill in a few things since I couldn't see what was happening.... I fought the urge to pull my leg back. I hate the feel of somebody's touch on my skin. Not to mention from somebody I didn't like. I kept my gaze low, pointed at my lap. EJ started patching up my injury.

''So. How exactly did you manage to step in an animal trap?''

''I got startled by a gun-gunshot in the distance. Was afraid it might've been aimed at me.''

''Well, at least that's not the case. This wound is less fatal compared to a gunshot.''

''Y-Yeah.'' I nodded

''Depending on where it's located of course. You won't die from a shot in your shoulder.'' Jack added ''Was it just one gunshot?'' He asked

''Only one shot.''

''Alright.''

The person shooting the gun might've been a hunter. That possibility made me scowl. I'm not sure if I could've spotted the trap even if I didn't step in it. It was covered in leaves, obviously not meant to be spotted. I do try to be careful. Noticing injuries is difficult for me. I don't have the pain reflex to stop myself from getting hurt.

I've heard stories of animals chewing off their stuck limb. The thought made my stomach turn. I'm glad I stepped into that trap instead of an animal. I'll have to remember to remove that closed trap, and if possible check if there are more.

''There. It should be good now. Remember to change the bandages every few days. You can do that on your own.''

''Alright, thank you Jack.''

I stood up. Before I even took my first step I halted.

''W-Where a-are the stairs?''

''Right...''

EJ grabbed me by the top of my arm again and guided me back to the stairs.

''Walk forward and you'll be going up the stairs.''

''Great.''

''Try to do things on your own more.''

''I'll do my best, th-thanks again.''

Jack responded with a low hum. I carefully walked up the stairs. My wound should be fine for now and I didn't get killed by EJ. Two wins.

I hope there aren't more animal traps scattered around.
