''If you help patch up my w-wound I c-can help you with something in return.'' I offered in an attempt to bargain with the stubborn cannibal.

''I don't want your help.''

''Perhaps not now, but if you n-need it later then you can ask and we'll be e-even.''

In most cases I don't like doing favors for people without knowing what it'll be. Let alone owing something to Jack of all people. Not smart on my part to not say any rules first. In theory he could ask anything from me now. But I'm desperate for his aid.

''Fine.''

Despite his hesitation Jack decided to help attend to my wound. He grabbed me by my upper arm and guided me to his couch so I could sit down. All the while without turning on any lights. I wondered if the basement had any lights in the first place. I barely come down here. Jack barely comes up to us. Without saying anything he walked off and I heard him rummage through a few things. In the meantime I fumbled with my hands.

Alright, things could've gone worse. I haven't been killed, yet. To my surprise he's helping me, I was afraid my words wouldn't mean anything to him.

I stopped fumbling with my hands when I heard Jack making his way back to me. He grabbed my leg to presumably examine it. Still had to fill in a few things since I couldn't see what was happening.... I fought the urge to pull my leg back. I hate the feel of somebody's touch on my skin. Not to mention from somebody I didn't like. I kept my gaze low, pointed at my lap. Although I did glance in his direction when he made a noise. It was an annoyed huff because he had dropped something. EJ started patching up my injury.

''Don't tell me you stepped in it on purpose. To see if you could feel it.''

''Not on purpose, promise.''

''Were there more traps around?''

I'm not sure if I could've spotted the trap even if I didn't step in it, let alone if there were more. It was covered in leaves, obviously not meant to be spotted. I do try to be careful. Noticing injuries is difficult for me. I don't have the pain reflex to stop myself from getting hurt.

''Not that I could see.''

''Which way from the cabin was it located?''

''Towards east.''

''Noted.''

I hope there aren't more traps. Next to not wanting any animal to end up injured, one of the other proxies or Jack would definitely feel an injury like this for weeks.

''There. It should be good now. Remember to change the bandages every few days. You can do that on your own. I suggest letting Brian have a look at it too while changing.''

''Alright, thank you Jack.''

I stood up. Before I even took my first step I halted.

''W-Where a-are the stairs?''

''Right...''

EJ grabbed me by the top of my arm again and guided me back to the stairs.

''Walk forward and you'll be going up the stairs.''

''Great.''

''I'll be reminding you of that favor once I need it.''

I had already forgotten that promise. A sacrifice for not dying tonight... Yeah that might sound dramatic but leave it for me to find a way to accidentally make the bleeding worse. I needed something to persuade him, a favor seemed the best option.

''Okay, just let me know. Uh... Thanks again.''

Jack responded with a low hum. I carefully walked up the stairs. My wound should be fine for now and I didn't get killed by EJ. Two wins.

I might regret owing him a favor.
