Two autumn weeks: Chapter 1

For an autumn evening it was rather cold. I watched how the wind made the orange and brown leaves of the trees dance. I listened to the crunching of dead leaves under my boots. I tried to ignore my anxious thoughts.

Only two weeks and then he'll be gone.

There's no backing out. I already promised he could stay with me and I was almost at the spot I was told he would be; a lonely bench in the middle of the forest.

I saw a pale guy with messy brown hair sitting on the bench with a duffle bag next to him. Most of his face was covered because of his goggles and mouth guard. As I made my way towards him he finally noticed me. The pale guy waved at me while he continued to swing his legs.

''H-Hi... You're J-Jack right?''

He asks that as if he expected another stranger to walk up to him today.

''Luckily for you today I am, and tomorrow too, and the rest of my life. Yes I'm Jack.''

He laughed at my sarcastic comment. I was honestly awful at breaking the ice, but had to start somewhere. I wanted to get back to the cabin before it got dark. I picked up his duffle bag, threw the strap over my shoulder and started walking back.

''Let's go Toby.''

Toby quickly got up and started following me.

''Are you real-really eyeless?''

''Yes I am.''

''Can I s-see?''

''Of course you can see, you have eyes.''

He laughed.

''I didn't mean- I'm c-curious about seeing what an eyeless per-person looks like! Can I see your f-face?''

''No.''

''W-Why not?''

''Just take my word for it, I am eyeless, no need to show you any proof. Why do you keep stuttering by the way, are you nervous or something?''

''I have tourettes. Didn't they tell you t-t-that?''

''No, they didn't give much information about you, so I had no idea what to expect other than what you would look.''

''Oh...''

''Is that why they call you ''Ticci Toby''? Because of your tics?''

''Y-Yeah... I prefer being called just Toby.''

After our short conversation we continued our walk in silence. It seemed like I was getting more than I signed up for. Toby wasn't the typical Proxy I was used to seeing. He was... Different. Not necessarily because of his tics, but something about his 'energy' seemed contrasting compared to the other Proxies. The weight of the situation hasn't seemed to kick in for him. Work for the Slenderman, or die.

Or he is aware but doesn't care about the restrictions of his new Proxy life.

We soon arrived at my little cabin. I slightly turned my head to look in Toby's direction, he was standing still and looking at the cabin.

''It looks cozy.''

This cabin always felt extremely lonely to me. Maybe that would change with Toby here, who knows. We went inside and I immediately showed him his room. I put his duffle bag on the floor beside his bed and he took off his backpack.

''I'll give you some time to unpack and settle in. If you need me i'll be in the kitchen making dinner.''

''Wait c-can you give me a quick tour?''
