"That was a damn close call," cursed Ominis. The three thieves had narrowly escaped the Aurors after breaking into the Gaunt family vault. Charlotte and Ominis were sitting on the back of a massive black dragon. No, actually, it was Sebastian who had merely transformed into a dragon. It was thanks to his shapeshifting abilities that they were able to escape unscathed. Unlike the Aurors and goblins who had surrounded the three. "But was it really necessary to burn them all down?" Ominis called over Charlotte's shoulder to Sebastian through the rushing wind. The black dragon growled in response. "It may not have been entirely right, but it was the safest option," Charlotte defended her partner. "What if even one of them had gotten their hands on us? We all know that your father would not let it go and would pay us a visit in Azkaban. The Dementors don't care if inmates are tortured. And the Ministry certainly doesn't either." Ominis just snorted.

They flew for a while, and the sun was already setting when Sebastian landed on a field next to a forest. Charlotte and Ominis slid off his back, and Sebastian regained his human form. "What now?" asked Charlotte. Sebastian pointed to the forest. "There's a small village on the other side. We'll rent a room in the inn and fly on tomorrow. We must keep moving for now, and the Ministry can track Apparation. But they can't track my dragon form." "Because a huge dragon is inconspicuous anyway," joked Charlotte. Sebastian shrugged. "At least less conspicuous than the usual travel methods. Come on, I don't want to walk through the forest in the dark. That's damn creepy." "Oh, is our dragon scared?" Ominis teased his best friend. Sebastian gave him an annoyed look. "Yes, he is. Shut up." And so the three of them marched off towards the forest.

By the time they arrived in the village, it had become dark. With a wave of their wands, they quickly changed their clothes to avoid attracting too much attention. The inn on the edge of the village was brightly lit and still well attended. The noise of many conversations, music and laughter spilt onto the cobbled street. It would not be a quiet night for the Three Bandits; they were sure of that. Just as Sebastian reached for the door handle, the massive oak door swung open, and a clearly drunk man stumbled out. "Get out of here! I don't want to see such scum like you in my house," a busty young woman behind him yelled and gave the drunkard a shove in the back, causing him to stumble forward and barely able to stay on his feet.

The three friends first looked after the drunkard in astonishment and then turned back to the supposed owner of the inn. She was just wiping her hands on her apron. "The scumbag still owes me money," she explained, nodding in the direction the man had staggered off. "He tried to steal one of my guests' wallets to pay off his debt to me. And I don't tolerate thieves in my house." She sighed and let her shoulders sink. Then she gave the three a friendly smile. "What can I do for you?" Charlotte swallowed hard. "We'd like two rooms for the night," she said, trying to hide the tremor in her voice. "Oh, of course. Come in; I'll see what I can do for you three sweethearts," the owner answered cheerfully and held the door open for the trio. Smiling uncertainly, the three entered.

The inn was packed. Guests were milling around the tables, eating and drinking like there was no tomorrow. A small band was playing rousing music on a stage, and a few couples were dancing in front of it. Here and there, you could see couples whose inhibitions had already dropped significantly. There was kissing and fondling, and the trio wondered what kind of inn they had ended up in.

"Come with me to my office, then we can take a look at what's still available," said the owner in a honey-sweet voice and walked ahead with her hips swinging. She led the three friends into a corridor behind the bar and into a room at the back. The bandits' nervousness grew with every step they took. What if the owner had already been informed and knew who they were? What would she do to them? Would she keep them in the inn and inform the Ministry of Magic that the escaped thieves had turned up at her place? Charlotte's heart was pounding in her throat as they entered the small office. "Two rooms, you said?" the owner asked, glancing at the keyboard behind her desk. "Yes," Sebastian replied. "If you still have something free." The owner nodded and reached for two keys that were still hanging on the giant keyboard. "The rooms are not next to each other, but we are almost fully booked. I hope that's okay with you." "Yes, that's no problem," Sebastian assured her, giving her a smile that Charlotte knew would weaken some knees. The owner returned his smile and batted her long eyelashes. Then she handed Sebastian and Ominis a key each. "Double room," she said to Ominis. "And a single room," she said to Sebastian and winked at him. "Thank you," Sebastian replied, exchanging keys with Ominis. The owner blushed and formed a silent "Oh" with her lips. Charlotte tried to hide her smug grin. To no avail. The owner cleared her throat. "The single room is on the first floor, the second door on the left. The double room is on the third floor, the last door on your right," she explained. The trio thanked her again, and Sebastian paid for both rooms for one night. They couldn't stay any longer anyway. That would be far too risky. They left the office and ate another bowl of soup before going to their rooms.
